Thanks all. It feels SO good to be home! The house is sticky and icky and the laundry is a mile high but everyone is alive and doing well so everything is okay.
Elias did well on the journey home but is feeling very stiff, especially in his lower back so he's been microvwaving the corn bag. He's taller than his dad but he's oh so thin and needs some fattening up. I can hear him talking and laughing to his friends online so that's a good sign. We're sticking to the pain meds regime pretty tight so that he doesn't get out of hand. He slept quite well last night in his own bed except he said he was a bit cold, so either I'll put another down blanket on his bed or bring in the space heater.
Canucks made it (barely) to round two so I'll be watching tonight at six! :-)

You're home! Was there a big welcome waiting? What did the family say when they saw Elias? Were they gobsmacked? I am so happy for you that this is over and Elias is doing so well. It's been a big year for you guys. Rest!

I don't know if you recall that poster from the UK named "prideinthejerse" but I am still giggling occasionally over their usage of the term, "rubbish." :-)
Since then I have been trying to popularize it here in the colonies.

So happy to see everyone's home safe and sound. Here's to a fast and uneventful recovery. You two are so inspiring!!!
And as an aside to Jennifer, I have to say that I smile every time you say "gobsmacked" -- it's my new favorite word.
Hi Chris, I didn't realise it must be an Australianism!

This thread is not allowed to be over ya know. LOL After 15893 posts, its hard not to wonder, even though we all know everything is fine and dandy at the same time....
Would love to see others jaws drop when they come over for a visit. That for me was so much fun. You should take pictures!

I agree fully with TiEd, this thread is not allowed to be over. We love hearing about you and Elias, and his result is just truly breathtaking and inspirational! i have been missing hearing about him, too.
I was at the pet shop today buying parakeet seed, and they have some little baby chinchillas with their mamas. It made me think of you and Elias.
Please let us know how things are going back at home.
Fondly,
Gayle

Gayle and Ed, you guys are too funny. I won't let the thread die entirely b/c I do plan on posting updates of Elias' recovery too, which is going really good. Tomorrow morning he has an appointment with our GP to have his staples taken out. The incision looks like it's healing up nicely and the staples actually look as though they're pushing out a bit. It will be really nice to get them out b/c Elias is dying for a real shower.
Our goal for him is of course to help him recover and get back to school and a normal life etc. but mostly we are focusing on making sure he is getting lots of really good food so he gets his strength up but the boy needs to fatten up as well. It's so weird how short and wide his torso looked before the surgery compared to after surgery where he's been stretched out 4 inches and now his torso looks so straight and so slim. His pin sites look great too and are healing nicely.
I will get some updated pics... after he showers and properly washes his hair!
