Elias got such great correction and it seems like he's having a really good recovery! I am so happy for you both.

I hope you are able to leave the hospital and get home as soon as possible. Before you know it, he'll not only be walking but even running around with friends. You might even have to remind him to be careful and not do more than is recommended by his doctor.

His recovery is going really well. He felt so good yesterday that he refused his pain meds at midnight and at four AM apparently (I was sleeping) and this morning he woke up so sore. The nurses and I have convinced him to keep a regular schedule with the meds so his pain doesn't skyrocket. I don't think he'll be skipping them anytime soon.

Sorry to be so dense about the blog. Yes of course, the link is in your signature - it was late at night when I asked about it and I spaced the link...

It's really important to keep the meds at a steady level for at least a week or two. We tried tapering Alexander's meds too soon and it was not pleasant for him. But he was off all narcotics by around 2.5 weeks post-op; he just took a little tylenol as needed for a few days after that.

If your bus back up to BC is planning any stops in the Seattle area, let me know. We live in North Seattle and I could possibly bring Alexander to meet you guys.

A week or two? These kids just amaze me and the ease in which their pain disappears so quickly. Oh, to be young again (and know what I know now.)

Would love to meet up with you and your son but this Gizeh Shriners bus is HUGE and it makes one stop only for a quick lunch break and that's after we get through Seattle.

I do believe we are booked on Tuesday's run back north. :-)

What took Elias 4 days to do, took me about 3 months at age 49. Amazing.

Sounds about right but don't ask me b/c I'm a bit slow with math. I still can't believe how fast he went from looking like he'd been shot after surgery to getting up and walking pretty much on his own a few days later. I'm not talking about baby steps either, he's taking long strides; I can hardly keep up to him. Even the nurses are telling him that he doesn't have to walk so fast. He walked a lot slower before his surgery actually b/c he was hurting so bad. At this pace he should be able to walk to and from school in half the time, lol.

I read your blog entry for today... I'm concerned that you are holding back too much on your true feelings about the officiating at the last NHL game. It's not good to hold your feelings in like that. LOL.

^^ Yes, it's been quite a trip and am thrilled that everything went so well but I am so looking forward to leaving here tomorrow.

I don't like to blame refs for games lost but occasionally they do somehow manage to manipulate things thereby deciding the outcome of a game. A good ref will be virtually invisible and the players will determine the outcome of the game. Well we have a game 7 now in Vancouver and since I will be in a hotel room there tomorrow night, I actually get to see it, so all is not bad. :-D

Not sure if you're into hockey even a little bit but the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup a few years back and their captain Rod Brind' Amour brought the Cup back to his hometown... Campbell River! We even have a street named after him.

The only reason I know the Hurricanes won the Cup in 2006 is that is the same year we moved here. It was madness. :-)

Yes, I remember that! Turns out I was kept very busy caring for Elias, constantly shifting all those weights around and tending to his every whim, lol.

I also had a lot of time to spend on my computer, read books and spend some time with hdhugger which was awesome! :-)

This really turned out to be quite a story with such a happy ending. Shriners, Dr Krajbich and staff really deserve big time credit for making this all happen....They truly are hero’s.

Its funny how we would use things like rodents, or cats, or in extreme cases, “eefing” to try to keep you in good spirits through all of this. I think it worked. And I received a few PM’s out of it anyway. He he

It was a good thing documenting all of this the way you did, it’s a valuable resource....you did such a good job.

I hope the trip home goes smoothly Elisa. I'll be thinking about you all day driving up I5 and passing pretty close to our house. Elias sounds like he's doing so great.

Here's to a "normal" life for Elias from now on, getting back to school and having a relaxing summer for all of you!
