  • Rod Rejection?

Is there anyone out there who has had their body reject their rod? What symptoms did you have? What tests did they do to say for sure that your rod was in rejection? I've been having alot of pain lately, and its not the nerve condition, its muscloskeletal pain. I've also been having some sores around my incision. Sometimes they bleed and then scab over, and then will keep doing this cycle for awhile. Can anyone relate?

    Rod reaction

I had the same problem when I had the Cotrel Dubousset rods. I was allergic to something in the metals in these rods and my back was doing the same thing. Itching inside and out and got worse as time went by and I would get fevers, etc. Then I couldn't be out in the sun anymore or I would get a rash all over my body and itch like crazyand burn, along with deathly sick for over a week. Once I had them removed and a different set put in, I never had the problem again. There are several tests for this, and if you have the time and money to do so. Everyone is different on which metals do not agree with them, as for the CD rods, the nickel in the rods seemed to be a big culprit. What type of rods do you have?

      rod problems?

      Hello,

I have been wondering if I am allergic to my rods or rejecting them as well. I have not had any bleeding, itching, rashes, etc. but I have been having a lot of pain in my upper right shoulder blade region that came back a year after my surgery. (I had surgery 10 years ago and am age 26 now.) Since about two years ago, I have been feeling worse and worse and have been on the couch A LOT due to the pain. I have internal pain that feels like a tight knot or radiating pain that is in my sternum/ribcage area. I am in the process of seeing some specialists (other than my doctor who put them in). I want to try to have some allergy testing done and would also be interested if anyone knows who to go to for this or what types of testing are needed.

        reason for removal?

        Matt,

What was your reason for having your rods removed? I am seriously considering another surgery. I have 2 scheduled appointments in Texas coming up. I can't keep living in this intensity of pain every day. However, I'm very concerned that my spine will begin curving again if I do so and then the whole system will have to be put back in again. Any recommendations?

            Bonjour??

            Hi Bonjour,

What kind of pain were you having before you had the rods out?? Why did you decide to have the rods taken out?

            Thanks.
