  • Melissa--
I sure hope your pre-op went OK and you are feeling confident about the surgery. Yes, it's probably impossible not to be nervous. Hopefully, you can put your feelings into positive thoughts and prayers--I'll definitely be doing that for you! Janet

    • Hi Melissa,

I didn't know you were having surgery now but I hope it goes well.
I know it is a stupid question to ask at this time but do they now what is causing your neck pain? It can be that I remember wrong, but I thought you once said that your doc had told you your sagittal balance was off? That in itself can lead to neck and pelvis pain, it is very very common and you then need to correct the sagittal balance itself. Im only telling you this as I wanted to make sure they are fixing your problem and not just a symptom.

Anyways, I really wish you the best of luck with everything. You truly deserve to feel better.
2001:Compression fracture L1- leads to kyphosis in the area, sagittal balance problems

2005:Artificial disc protheses (L5/S1, L5/L4) Failes and creates a hyperlordosis in the lumbar, sagittal balance problem worsens.

2010:Revision surgery of ADR L4/L5 to fusion- too much of the lordosis is reduced, fused in a kyphosis. Hyperlordosis at L5S1 increases

Currently in severe pain and bedridden. Need a revision surgery of hyperlordosis at L5S1 and correction of sagittal balance, kyposis prob.

      • Thanks everyone. Pre-op went great. I find out this surgery is more complex than I had thought. Dr Bederman had said 7 hours but that was from when I am in position for him to start operating. That means the 7 hours starts then. Also, I was not aware that I was going to be in ICU but learned that today as well.

I am having this surgery because I have pain when I look straight at people /places or things. I hope that by doing this surgery I will have less pain .

I started this day at Pain Management and got hip injections at 8am. While I was in Pain Management , my husband got a call from his GI doctor. He has a tumor on his liver and a spot on his bowel. So Wednesday we have to see a surgeon about this situation.

They say that God does not give you more than one can handle, but I am pretty close to the breaking point.

        • I don't know what to say Melissa. I'm sure we were all hoping things would start improving for you with this surgery but this latest news must have crushed you and your family.

More than ever, you need this surgery to work. Not long now, deal with it first, then you'll be in a position to support your husband. I feel for you so much, all of you.

              • Thanks all for your good wishes and prayers.

We meet with my husband's surgeon tomorrow. The GI doctor was able to get him an appt in 2 days rather than 2 months. I know that I will get thru this but I am tired of life being so hard.

                  • Well, I am not having my surgery Friday after all. We met with Marc's surgeon this morning . The surgeon is very concerned about what he sees on the CT scan. He wants to operate on 10/9. If I have my surgery on Friday , I will not be able to be there for him. The way the surgeon talked today, it is 99% cancer.

I will not be back here for a while but I thank each and every one of you who has been there been for me since the beginning.
