  • Yes it is great news. My right hip feels pretty good except for the bursa. My biggest pain area right now is my neck, which I will be talking to Dr Bederman about next week.

Thank you all for your good wishes

    • great news, Melissa

Karen, just a note...i definitely was given too much steroid
in January...the assistant told me he gave me "a ton" to
address my complaint that the previous tx hadnt helped me
much...it is absolutely what caused it to happen...
not just my opinion...endocrinologist, GP and the doctor
who did it himself pretty much admitted it....
but getting them every 3 months could have led to the same
      end result, i am sure....

      • Thanks Jess. Too much steroids is what I am afraid of. I am now on insulin because my blood sugar is high. That Is why I am getting my shoulder done and looking into getting my hip replaced.

        • Melissa, i don't know much about steroid shots
and insulin, i just know that when i was on oral
prednisone (years ago), it messed with my blood sugar, and i
          am NOT diabetic...
is there any chance at all that steroid shots could
          be influencing your blood sugar...???

if this is a ridiculous question, please forgive my ignorance...

I am sorry that I did not make myself clear. They are most definitely making my blood sugar numbers increase. That is why my doctor put me on insulin. I have been able to control my diabetes with oral meds since March 2010 but with all the steroids that I have been having my blood sugar numbers are too high

            • that is the awful part of the shots....
when they work for the pain, they are such a blessing...
but often patients are not aware of what they can do to
blood chemistry...i had no idea about the cortisol side effect...
the sugar effect doesn't surprise me, sad to say, as i know what the
oral steroids can do to blood sugar...

i hope surgery fixes the problems, so that you never need
              steroids again....

              • Well, Wednesday and Thursday I will be at UCI -Irvine. I am having my left SI joint done in the AM and then a trigger point injection at 1pm and then seeing Dr Bederman at 4pm. Thursday I am seeing my arm surgeon to discuss my left shoulder MRI that I had done several weeks ago and to go over my July 9th surgery .

                Wish me well

                  Melissa,
Have you had trigger point injections before? I feel really awesome until the lidocaine wears off. Then I'm pretty sore for about three days. I would recommend taking whatever pain meds you have for when that wears off. Oddly, when I had my epidurals I had no pain after the numbing agent wore off. Trigger points are intended to shred the muscle a little bit in order to stimulate blood flow. Thus the reason for pain afterward. I'm only telling you because it sounds like you are staying out of town for a couple of days. If you're not, then I wouldn't worry about it.Take care! Oh, and of course, well wishes to you!!!
                  Be happy!
We don't know what tomorrow brings,
                  but we are alive today!

Thanks. I am staying with a friend Wednesday night who lives near the hospital. I have never had a trigger point injection. Dr Bederman feels that it will help my neck pain. We shall see. Thanks for the advice about the pain relief pills
