I'm so sorry! Our Australian system is going down the same route although it's early days yet...we desperately need to get rid of our current extreme right wing government though we don't have a strong alternative. They're trying to privatize everything. I'm strongly against privatized health in particular but also education. While health is in the hands of government, we can vote to keep it fair and available for everyone. In the hands of private corporations, we're screwed.Surgery March 3, 2009 at almost 58, now 63.

If there's not enough evidence that a procedure is effective, insurance companies can easily deny coverage. And, it's the insurance companies that set the bar. If there's adequate literature, your doctor should be able to get it covered.Never argue with an idiot. They always drag you down to their level, and then they beat you with experience. --Twain

Well, after a phone call ,an email, and a letter to the head of the orthopedic department at UCI, I now have an appointment today , instead of the end of August with the new knee/hip surgeon at UCI. So hopefully I will have a knee surgery date soon

The appointment was a disaster. To begin,I waited over 2 hours. The resident walked in and asks me if I have had the 3D MRI done of my knee. I asked who who have ordered it. Then she says that Dr McMaster will see you after you have it done. I ask if I can meet him. Her answer is I guess if you want to . I said that is why I waited over 2 hours , as it is close to 5:30pm and my appointment was for 2:45pm. At 6pm, He comes in. He does not say hello or anything to me He then tells me that he wants to take the metal out of my femur bone in one surgery and let me heal. Then he will do the knee replacement. When I ask him , why it has to be done in two surgeries his answer is that it is too much for my body to handle. I ask him if he has even read my file. He is at least 65 years olds
He did not even know that I was fused from C2 to my pelvis. I doubt he even read my record.
I am leaving the UCI orthopedic department.
The pain management department is fighting BCBS on my spinal cord stimulator. If they lose. I have no choice except to go back on pain medsMelissa
