Today's Appoitment
Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that my x-rays look great. Everything is in place exactly where it should be. The bad news is that he
feels that my pain is nerve pain and that there is really nothing to do except give it more time. As he pointed out to me, it has not even been 3 weeks from my
last surgery. I am on very high doses of pain meds and Lyricia so there is nothing more that I can take. He is sending me for PT but nothing strenuous. He wants
ice, heat, TENS. I am seeing him in 3 weeks. If I want, he would give me more steroids but we are both concerned about the fusion. Also, the steroids affect my mood and I am not in a great mood to begin with.We talked about a injection but first he wants to do a CAT scan. Again, we both talked about the fact that I am less than 3 weeks out. If my pain stays the same or gets worse, then I will have a CAT scan and see if that shows anything. He did say that a possibility about
the pain is that nerves might be stuck under the hardware. So that is what is happening in my life. I have a PT appt Friday at 2pm. I am , also, going to find a GP
to prescribe some good mood pills.
Thanks everyone for your caring and just being here for me. It means so much as I feel alone .Melissa

Hi Melissa...
I think it's way too early to expect to be out of pain. If it's nerve pain, there's a good chance that it will improve over time.
By the way, narcotics do little (if anything) for nerve pain. You might want to consider reducing the narcotics, as that might help your mood. I found that, when I stopped taking oxycontin, my pain level didn't change one iota. Whatever you do, if you decide to start reducing the dosage or the timing, do it slowly.
Hang in there.

LindaNever argue with an idiot. They always drag you down to their level, and then they beat you with experience. --Twain

Melissa,
I think Linda's advice is good. You know that you had an excellent surgeon this time so keep the faith. It's great news that everything looked fine. I'm sorry you're still in pain, but it will get better with time.
Keep us posted as we all care about you.Karen

Yes, Linda , I have thought of reducing my narcotics . However, since I am starting PT Friday, I am going to wait and see what happens with that. It is just
upsetting that I came thru the big surgery without too many problems and this smaller surgery is the one giving me problems. Thanks for the adviceMelissa

Melissa--
I'm sure it is good to know the hardware is OK! I know that's not much consolation when you are hurting but I too agree with Linda that it is pretty early. Praying for better days for you. JanetJanet

I am glad you've had confirmation that everything's where it should be, that must ease your mind a little.
I think anyone's nerves would be jangled after all you've been through Melissa. I do hope it's not long before the pain subsides. Don't let the PT push you into doing anything drastic. Slowly, gently, carefully. Remind him/her of what you've been through.
Let us know how you go. Wishing you the best.Surgery March 3, 2009 at almost 58, now 63.
