My surgery is scheduled for July 18, Next week, I have to have a MRI and a EMG . Then the following week, I have my Pre-op testing and my last appt with my surgeon before my surgery. The move is OK. What ever we need in the rental is unpacked. My problem is that since I know no one here, I do not know what I am going to do when I get home from the hospital . I will not be able to drive and here in Southern CA , you must drive to get any where
Thanks for the good wishesMelissa

Hi Melissa,
Hi Melissa,
I really feel for your circumstances. I would like to suggest for you to get a referral for a home care agency and set up for post-op nursing, PT, OT and a homehealth aide. I am guessing you will probably go to rehab after the hospital. The time in rehab really helped me come home in better condition. You will also need to have a primary care physician. They often have agencies they prefer or your surgeon may. I am a home care OT and after my scoliosis revision I referred myself to my own agency. You may even be able to start before surgery. All agencies are different, I don't know if you have any experience with them. They also should have a social worker who could help you plan for additional services not covered by home health, ie. meals, shopping, transportation etc. Wish I lived closer, I'd be glad to help. There is help out there. Maybe someone in CA can connect you with an agency or help they liked. So sorry you are alone with all this.
Take care, Cyndi

I had such a really bad day today. I have been in so much pain the last week or two that I cannot wait for July 18. Today, however, I had a MRI and an EMG. Both of which caused my pain levels to escalate. I thought that during the EMG I was going to pass out because of the pain.It was that bad. It is the third time that I have had that test and it never hurt so much

I'm sorry to hear that Melissa. I hope you still have the medication to bring down those pain levels quickly. It's July 8 here, only 10 days to go and you'll be on your way to your well-deserved, long-awaited new, better, happier life. Keep that goal in mind. Not long now.Surgery March 3, 2009 at almost 58, now 63.

Just thought of something. Did you ever do the Peggy Huddleston tapes or read her book. I found it was somewhat helpful before surgery. When pain meds aren't working, you try everything.Janet

Thanks, Melissa. It is a great place to live. Moved here in '98. Nice little university town. I hope the book can help you some. JanetJanet
