I'm new to the forum although have read posts for quite a while as a guest. At age 52, have finally reached the point where fear of this surgery has surpassed fear of living with this pain for the rest of my life. Was diagnosed in 1972, basically untreated because "bones had ossified" and wasn't going to spend 9 months in a body cast. Gone about the rest of my life pretty much without issues up until the last few years when arthritis, degenerative disc etc has set in. Am a music teacher and choral singer and spend a lot of time on my feet which is getting to be more and more difficult. Haven't had an accurate measurement for some time but the curve is well into the 60's. Have done all the conservative stuff, have read the book and I know I need to move forward. Anyway, am scheduled for an app't. with Dr. Kebaish at Johns Hopkins in mid-October. He did the surgery of a close friend (what are the odds of that??) which was a revision of a botched job and she had nothing but rave reviews about the whole process at Hopkins. My attitude is terrified but resolved. This seems like a wonderfully supportive group of people. I know I'm going to have a lot of questions--am so glad this is here.
