You could try to get an open one, but open MRIs are lower magnet field strength so the images won't be as high quality as convensational MRIs.
I think most open MRIs only go up to .3 telsa while closed ones can be up to 1.5 telsa. I'd find out if your doctors cares either way, you don't want to end up getting rescanned. Open MRIs also can take longer than closed MRIs to scan.
I've had three, one closed and two open... I was fine with all of them except the last one which was a c-spine that I had hard time NOT swallowing for... oops I couldn't help it!... the tech was getting annoyed..hehe. My c-spine has to get rescanned on a closed MRI which annoys me just cause that takes time and I wanted a closed scanner from the beginning.. darn scheduling.
