    Leviwood,

I think it's great that your Mother might join us, and of course you can give her my name.

    Singer,

The Cleveland Clinic is a 3 hour drive from my home. I did have all my pre-op appointments there, but I always made them in the afternoon. I came home the day I was realeased from the hospital. With the right combination of medications, I pretty much slept the whole way. It took me a few years to find someone I liked and trusted, so distance was not an issue. And I happened to find him through the NSF.

    Good luck with your search,
    Shari

      thanks for replies

Shari and Linda, thanks for your replies. The long-distance thing sounds daunting but do-able, if necessary.

Leviwood, good luck to you and your mom. As others have said, she's lucky to have you. It seems to me that 52 is definitely not too old for surgery...I'm 50 and just starting to think about it and will take as long as necessary to investigate the whole thing. Definitely a frightening prospect but so is ending up crippled and/or on oxygen.
