As I struggle with going forward with the surgery, I got to thinking of how much I love to dance. Nowadays I can only dance while driving. After Dr Gupta delayed my surgery + the Coronvirus, I am looking at around 2 years to have surgery. I don’t want to get it before a vaccine comes out. I would also be around 66 years old. Then found out my only 2 friends can’t help me once in-home health aides leave won’t be available. Since this surgery is a crap shoot & you won’t know what your life will be like after surgery you need some kind of support system to last 1-2 years. Needless to say I’m pretty bummed about the whole thing. I was just listening to some songs now called classic rock (Jackson Brown, Allman Brothers) & got to thinking, of after my recovery (fused T4-pelvic), if I could dance again & go to concerts (I’m sure there’ll still be some old farts left) that would be the deal breaker for me to do the surgery). Need folks experience & opinions. Thanks

Moderna 3rd phase trials start in July with 30,000 people. There is a huge push going on.
https://techcrunch.com/2020/06/11/mo...ccine-by-july/
I was forced to go see Rod Stewart years ago...average age was probably 65, and the ambulances were lined up for that show. Every time Rod would shake his hips (to the bass drum) a few would faint.
I shake my hips and nothing happens. Maybe it was the bass drum. Ha ha
I've been horseback riding and skiing, but not dancing or any concerts. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to dance as long as things go ok with the surgeries.
There is a possible 2nd COVID wave coming that everyone is jumpy about. Or at least in the markets....Recovery rates have risen, but also new cases have risen. This is not good.
Here is a video of me skiing after my surgeries. I am in the red jacket. This was Jan 2011

I think you will be able to dance. It may not look the same as it did before your surgery but you should still be able to enjoy it.
The concert would be up to now you feel about crowds. Remember the fused spine is not apparent to other people but you have to stay on your gaurd. When I go anywhere, I always scan the place to see where to stand or sit so as not to be bumped into. At a concert ,if you can choose your spot , you should be ok.T10-pelvis fusion 12/08

To replace the action of Serratus Anterior muscle 3/16

Ed i feel you are correct about the second wave of the virus. Actually I think right now we are having a stunning number of new cases.

I guess using the "Second wave" would be incorrect if the first wave never dropped. This virus is NOT giving us a break. And I do not believe the China figures.
All we can do is wait and try to stay healthy.

No island of sanity.
Question: What do you call alternative medicine that works?
Answer: Medicine
"We are all African."

With medicine, you have good news and you have bad news. We can only hope that the scientists can discover something someday. FDR started the March of Dimes for Polio hoping that someday a guy like Jonas Salk would make a discovery. It happened about 8 years after FDR died. Funny since the experts are now thinking he had Guillain Barre.
We will take anything right now. The scientists doing work on COVID could perhaps stumble across something good. Who knows? Many inventions are due to discovery....hints lead to attempts, and then Bingo.
Brazil is on fire. Russia also. California and Nevada are also up. Sigh....I was hoping we would get a break.
I should be travelling now.....but should I take the gamble? I have gambled on serious surgery, and it worked, but take that chance again?
I will put my Munsters Grandpa outfit on and go hang in the closet for now. I am used to this from my old inversion boot days living up at the lake.

I guess everyone has made adjustments in this covid pandemic. I don't think I will start too far from home. I go outside a lot but not too far.
Prior to March I was volunteering at my local hospital. I am southwest of Chicago in small town. The hospital isn't as large as Chicago city hospitals. But in this small location they have housed 394 patients to go home. They do not tell me how many didn't make it . They are still treating around 40. This isn't the ones that just can stay home. The hospital has not allowed any volunteers to return until July.
Come fall they probably won't allow us there again. Also even in July no volunteers in the emergency deptment, at main lobby of Dr office location. They are treating it extremely serious.I
I will take my cue from them.T10-pelvis fusion 12/08

I'd like to remind folks that this is a scoliosis forum. While the virus is something to consider for those planning surgery, I want to ensure that threads don't get hijacked.

Do know that 66 is not too old to get the surgery. When I got mine I saw people probably in their 70's and above recovering from back surgery.

Doctors who think they are “Gods”
I don’t understand why it seems that the folks posting here only talk about how it’s their decision about getting surgery but in my case it’s 1 of the so called best Scoliosis drs in USA dumbass dr who held up my surgery in January over NOTHING!!!! LACK OF FAMILY!!! HUSBAND!!! RISKS that everyone my age is subject to!!! So I am hanging on by a thread & w/ this virus appearing does anyone out there want to go back & ask the dumbass again “can I get the surgery?” I’m not going to drive 5 1/1 hrs in pain & spend $ I don’t have only to look back at his stone cold eyes & be told no again. Hell nobody in his office is even answering the phone. I have had it! And people wonder why you never hear back from people again on this forum- it’s because nobody cares about them- no matter how much pain they are in or lack of quality of life. They are no longer on this earth. I’ve had it.

It is very difficult to be in your place. And all you are trying to do is move forward with your life.
I would say this physician may not be the correct one for you. Not only will you need support from friends or family, you need support and confidence in your surgeon.
There are so very many things to consider in surgery timing The virus has changed a lot of things.
Also remember you may need a post hospital rehab center and that bring s concerns.
If they aren't answering the phone they may be dealing with illness also.
Try again and good luck.T10-pelvis fusion 12/08
