If fused to the sacrum, for how long is the raised tiolet seat needed after surgery? Is a permanent higher seated tiolet necessary? I want to get any structural changes that are necessary out of the way in plenty of time.

I used a toilet seat with arm rests for a month or more. We already had the comfort height toilet in one bathroom and put a new one in the upstairs bathroom after my surgery. I am okay with a regular toilet, but prefer the "comfort height", which I think makes more sense for any adult whether you've had back surgery or not.Karen

I am fused to sacrum but never needed the higher toilet, but can see how it might help.Surgery March 3, 2009 at almost 58, now 63.

I used it for a couple of months. Another thing I bought, that has really been handy, is a bidet toilet seat. There are dozens of kinds available on Amazon, and many are pretty inexpensive.Never argue with an idiot. They always drag you down to their level, and then they beat you with experience. --Twain

Rasied toilet seat
Everyone is different but I used my raised toilet seat for almost three months. Then went out and bought a new toilet that was higher. The old one was pretty low.50 years old!!!!!

I didn’t need one. It looks like we are running about 50:50 on this one.
I guess those who needed one had problems sitting? I didn’t have problems sitting for under a few minutes after my surgeries.

I think it's more of a getting up and down and safety issues.

I can't really say that I "needed" a higher toilet seat once I gave up the portable one and do just fine when I'm some place that has the lower toilet, but while we were remodeling the bathroom anyway, we just thought the taller one made sense. I wouldn't be surprised if the taller toilets would eventually become the standard size.Karen
