My surgeon didn't ask me to pre-donate. He used cell-saver and blood bank blood.

my two cents
Dr. Kebaish also does not recommend his patients donating their own blood prior to surgery...I relied solely on banked blood and had no issues. He preferred his patients to be fighting ready!
Years ago I was contacted by the Red Cross for blood donations (I am AB+) and the first time I went in I passed out on the cot before they even got the pint and that nurse would not unhook me until she got it. I woke up with an ammonia capsule under my nose and her saying, "Keep squeezing, keep squeezing!" After 3 hours of juice and cookies and having to call someone to pick me up (they wouldn't let me drive myself home) she told me not to donate anymore! And that was fine with me...Julie - 51 yrs old

Debra -- I used two units of blood from the blood bank. I'm 11 weeks post op and am doing great.
