rohr and Melissa
thank you so much for thinking of me, and remembering my MRI today...
boy, do those metal tables feel crappy...
anyway, i had it done...took an hour and a half!
they said they did extra shots of spine because it was so curved to
their eyes that they wanted to be sure they got all of it on MRI pix...
there were 2 techs there...
not a word out of either...
they did spine for part of time and hip for rest of time...
i got the disc, and requested a copy of written report to me...
they said it takes up to 48 hours to be written...
again, thank you so much for thinking of me...
very much appreciated!
Please let us know what you find out. Do you go back to see the ordering doctor soon?

hi leah
i am due to see doc who ordered MRI end of August...i can call
and get appt sooner if need be...
his office is NOT good about calling people after tests...to the point that
if they do call you, you immediately guess it is bad news!
thanks for the sympathy...yes, i am more sore than usual...seemed to me
that it took a long time...had lower spine and then left hip done...
they said they took extra pix cause my spine was so curved they wanted
to be sure to get all of it in pix...but without long wait in waiting room,
i was there over an hour and a half...
felt like forever on table!
rohr...thank you so much to you and others for the concern...
i JUST got the report today...there are 2 separate reports...
one for spine..long on conclusion...bad...my spine is worse than
i ever allow myself to think about...
and one on hip...two separate papers came in two separate envelopes...
bottom line on my hip....impressions were...
1. bone marrow edema in left symphysis and superior ramus most compatible with a stress injury without a discrete fracture line seen...
2. small amount of increased fluid in the trochanteric bursa compatible
with a mild bursitis.
3. no osteoarthritis of hip.
number 3 surprised me, as i have osteoarthritis of spine...
number 2 sounds like what Linda Racine suspected...trochanteric
bursitis...
not sure what number 1 means...
no call from doc who ordered MRI...the office there is AWFUL about
calling patients after tests...
anyway, i do not know how i injured my left hip...
sometimes my little angel puppy yanks me on his leash...he is amazingly
strong for a little Maltese...even my husband says so....
but i do not remember any injury or saying "ouch" while walking him
or anything...
the MRI of lower spine is unbelievably depressing to me...
it goes into detail of the "severe leftward convex scoli of lumbar
spine, apex of curvature at L2....extensive degeneration and plate changes on right side at L2 L3 and on left side at L5-S1...guess i know why i need fusion to sacrum!!!
(i have upper curve of 42 degrees that they did NOT include in MRI)
then they go into detail...on EACH level!
L1-L2 moderate to severe right sided facet arthropathy...mild foraminal
narrowing
L2-L3 mild disc bulge.... severe right sided facet arthropathy ...mild to
moderate right foraminal narrowing
L3-L4 disc bulge with severe facet degeneration....significant right
foraminal narrowing...mild narrowing of central canal
L4-L5 moderate to severe central canal stenosis with EXUBERANT (???)
facet arthropathy... moderate to severe bilateral foraminal narrowing
L5-S1 significant degenerative endplate changes....severe facet
arthropathy...narrowing of lateral recesses from bony hypertrophy
....significant left foraminal encroachment.
overall impression...
severe leftward scoliotic curvature wtih significant spondylosis at L2-L3 and L5-S1. Multilevel facet arthropathy with foraminal encroachment...moderate to severe central canal stenosis at L4-L5
whew...exhausted from looking at that...
ugh...not a spine i would wish on anyone, that's for sure!
I'm sorry to hear about the results but at least you know what you're dealing with to help you in deciding your next steps. I know you've consulted with different surgeon's. Did you decide on a surgeon for when the time comes?
44 years old at time of surgery, Atlanta GA
Pre-Surgery Thorasic: 70 degrees, Pre-Surgery Lumbar: 68 degrees, lost 4 inches of height in 2011
Post-Surgery curves ~10 degrees, regained 4 inches of height
Posterior T3-sacrum & TLIF surgeries on Nov 28, 2011 with Dr. Lenke, St. Louis
2 rods, 33 screws, 2 cages, 2 connectors, living a new life I never dreamed of!
have been told i need spinal surgery by Dr Boachie, Dr Lonner, Dr Neuwirth,
Dr Anand (flew to L.A. to see him a few years ago)
and a few other surgeons whose names escape me at the moment....
when i was planning surgery, in 2006, i chose Dr Lonner....
a problem with my left femur interrupted plans for spinal surgery...
i never went back to planning surgery....
i have different insurance now...not a great plan...a Medicare Advantage
Plan...i can change next year, if i can find something affordable (?)
that doctors take...i do not even know if Lonner takes my current advantage plan...
the time HAS come...but i have not moved forward with surgery...
i have changed my mind about having it and not having it a dozen
times...but have not been able to bring myself to go ahead with it...
i am wondering if walking differently because of spinal pain had some
impact on my hip...because i do not remember injuring it in any way...
strange....
i have heard of steroid shots for bursitis...but i had such a bad time
with an overdose of steroids that i doubt i would try them again.
hope you are feeling OK, with all you have been thru lately...
Jess,
That's an awful report! But as said earlier, you know the enemy and can now develop the right battle plan for you. Medicare advantage plan, all I can say is ugh! I can not stand them and really think they might have well been selling ocean view property in Missouri because those plans should've never exsisted. They portrayed it as a great affordable insurance and it is far from it.
Anyhow, I will be praying for a strong battle and a victory of less pain for you. Living with pain is exhausting and I wouldn't wish it on anyone! Stay strong!

thank you, Tamena...
but there is no battle plan i have in mind...
i had a huge cortisol crash the last time i had steroid shots..
my cortisol went down to almost zero...from too much steroid in
my system...very scary...complete and total exhaustion...
i was lucky my cortisol numbers came back up...
i think i might be offered steroid shot for bad left hip...
but probably will not try it...
there is nothing for my spine besides surgery...
and i have not gone ahead with that...
but i appreciate your kind concern and encouragement.
hi Sharon
thank you for your kind concern...
i do not know that i will do anything...
if i am offered a steroid shot for left hip, i am worried about my
cortisol crashing again..and if it does that again, there is no guarantee
it will come back again...
i do not think i will do anything with the spinal problems...i am not ready
to have fusion....
i think i have few options....one major one with surgery...but few
options in numbers of things that can be done.
my concern now is how i injured the hip so i do not do it again...
No wonder you're in so much pain, Jess. <sad face>

So sorry to hear the news-- but at the same time it must be good (in a sense) to know what you are dealing with. I'm thinking of you and the decisions you are up against. (What to do, if anything...) I am so sorry you injured your hip!
