    Hi Genie...

Sorry about what you're going through. It must be incredibly stressful. Fever can indicate infection, so I think you should put in a call to your daughter's surgeon. Post surgery nausea is often caused by medication. What is your daughter taking for pain?

    Regards,
    Linda

        Genie,

I agree with Linda...call the doctor just to be safe. Are you giving her Tylenol for her fever every four hours or so? I don't know if your doctor told you this or not, but my daughter's doctor said to only give her Tylenol and nothing containing aspirin. Have you tried having her sip on ginger ale and maybe eating some saltine crackers. If possible, give her some crackers or something light when she takes her medication so maybe it won't be so harsh on her stomach. Good luck and I hope your daughter feels better soon.

It is very, very important that you allow the doctors involved in your daughter's care to determine the cause of her fever. She has recently had surgery and is still in that time period where complications of surgery, and a post surgical infection is a big complication, can occur. Giving her meds to lower her fever may well mask an underlying post surgical complication that needs to be addressed by specialists.

I do hope it is absolutely nothing to be concerned about, but you need to play it safe here. Call her doctors at once and tell them what is going on.

My son has had 4 major surgeries in his life (none spinal yet) and has been sick a lot of times. I work part time, but often I still have to call off/take off, etc. Luckily, my employers have all been understanding and I hope yours will too. Sometimes the number of days we have allowed to take time off to care for our kids is far less than the real number we need to take off. A family leave may be of help for you.

Call that doctor and hopefully you will find out you have nothing to worry about at all, but let the specialists make that decision . . they have the training and expertise to do so with the least probability of harm to your daughter.

            Maybe I can help

Hi this is Brittany. I have had surgery twice and on the first surgery, I experience what your daughter is going through. Personally, I believe it is all the moving around that you do when you leave the hospital that creates the nausea. I lost 20 pounds during that time, and found it impossible to eat for about a week and a half. I also had a low grade temp....but I would really watch that. I only started eating when my doctor told me he would put me back in the hospital if I lost one more pound!! Milkshakes were my best friend. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help or offer any advice.
