I'm 24. I have been doing swimming for a long time but have stopped because I had/have pain when swimming. Does anyone know of some books/articles about scoliosis when related to swimming? I'm not looking to "treat" scoliosis through swimming, but I would love to know how to avoid/minimize muscle pain(I mean typically one side of my back muscles is overloaded) when swimming. Thanks!

In my medical references they call the condition Thoracolumbar Scoliosis.

Hi, Delta.
I don't have an answer for you except maybe going to the doctor and letting him/her know your pain situation. They may be able to refer you to a physical therapist that could direct you in how to minimize your pain while swimming. It's a bummer that swimming CAUSES you pain. Swimming always reduces my pain IF I can find a way to do it regularly.

My primary reason for replying to your post is to bump you up past all of the spam that seems to have appeared overnight. Hopefully, someone who can answer your question more accurately will see your post now.

Have a good day!
