Hi Kootenay,
Welcome to the forum! So sorry about your pain, there are many here that have been down that same road. My surgeon told me that same thing, get online and learn as much as you can before you make a decision. I waited 34 years for my surgery, its hard to believe I made it! (smiley face)
It would probably be a good idea to buy Dave Wolpert’s book. You can buy it through the forum. He did a great job writing it.

Lisanicole is from Edmonton and I believe she was operated in Edmonton. You can PM her.

Surgery in Alberta
Hi Kootenaygal,
I indeed did have my surgery at the U of A in Edmonton in 2000. My surgeons were Dr. Moreau and Dr. Mahood. Feel free to email me if you have any detailed questions, I'd love to help.

I’ve had some good times in Canada....it makes it hard to forget.
Kootenay,
Exactly where are you? If you live down by Invermere, BC, that’s a long trip.

Surgery in Alberta
Ed...I live in Nelson, BC. I know it's a long trip. About 12 hours from home.
Nothing is close, when you live here...Vancouver, is 8 hours away too.
I was referred to the back surgeon in Edmonton...and will be seeing him again in December.
Thanks for your input, and advice!

Kooteny, how does it work with insurance when you live in BC but are considering surgery in another province? I'm curious b/c the wait lists are so long for kids here in BC but BC Children's did not suggest that I take my son to another province even though his scoliosis was very severe. Out of sheer desperation I contacted Shriners International on the advice from some members here. Sure glad I did!Son 14 y/o diagnosed January 20th. 2011 with 110* Curve
Halo Traction & 1st. surgery on March 22nd. 2011

We live in NB, but our daughter is treated in NS. There are no costs to us as long as you have a valid medicare.
Here are the rules for our province, and I'm sure the other provinces would be the same except maybe for Quebec.
