  • Hi newly diagnosed and waiting for help..big sigh

Hi my daughter is 13 years old and we noticed one leg was longer, then noticed one hip is higher. My Dh took her to the doctor...no scoliosis check?

I took her to the Chiro and asked for a scoliosis panel, he agreed. the xrays showed a s shape curve with the major shift in lower pelvic...lumbar region showed a 28 degree to the left and thoracic showed a 25 degree convexing to right. I made an apt to the pediatric orthopedic...and now we wait..till her apt....I call everyday to see if there is any cancellations. I checked into Spincor brace, read about the boston brace, and others....been reading this forum...btw thank you for all your honest posts...I find your experiences very helpful.

I read many articles about exercise and proprioception of muscles using balance as a key link into therapy. so while we wait....we do core body exercises, using a balancing ball, stretch the tight areas....which you can feel the tightness in the areas of the cure..and a massage...every night...i do this hoping that it is not progressing.

Why do I wait....I had an apt with a spincor brace chiro...but cancelled it... all the info was on their website and it sounds fantastic..but the results are 70% effective and when discussing the brace with their doctor there is no guarantee any brace will work..

Do you find that the brace needs exercise to totally be effective? the two go together? IT would be interesting to see a survey on here with what types of braces everyone uses and who has been successful with the brace.
Spinecor brace really makes sense in that it allows full movement with support, curious how many here really like it? Used it...it is fairly new, but the dynamic part of it really makes sense.. Exercise makes sense too. Waiting does not make sense....

mom who is doing her best to hold it all together

    Hi Frog

Welcome, It is a tough journey but you will find alot of support here. As you can see from my signature we use the Spinecor. We have had fabulous results so far. We have and out of brace x ray next week. I am so nervous!!

Our daughters cases are different because of their age. We are JIS. From what I understand the brace works on young smaller curves. Your daughters curve is still preety small.
My daughter does no exersizes. We go to Canada for treatment and are very happy we chose to go there. There has been talk about shoe lifts here, you should try to look into those conversations considering she has a shorter leg. It seems to me that if the hips are not balanced than the back will be off too.

My daughter is still growing, she will most likely need to wear the brace through puberty. We will find out in a couple days. As for the pump I am not sure. The brace has straps, you may be able to place the pump around the straps or on the pelvis base.

Sounds like you had a tough year!!

My Daughter is 15, she started wearing the Spinecor brace about 18 months ago. Her curve has dropped from 48 degree to 24 degrees out of brace. She does exercises (stretches and basic yoga) and sees a chiropractor regularly.

Before we started Spinecor, she was in a Boston Brace for about 18 months. She went through a growth spurt and her curve increased.

Overall, we recommend the Spinecor system over the Boston Brace because it is cooler, eaiser to move in and eaiser to hide under clothes. And it worked for us.

        Good Luck, BigBlueFrog!
        (And good luck Christine!)

Wow, I looked into that Scoliosis Specialists. A couple of chiropractors own a national chain of chiropractic clinics that supply the Spinecore brace. Interesting...I wonder if I can get a franchise too?

Seriously though, I believe the Spinecor worked even less well on those patients who didn't go directly to the inventors of the brace in Montreal, who are both Orthopedic Surgeons. My advice to you would be to stick with the medical doctors, especially in the pediatric group with growth going on.
