  • Computer animation of scoliosis surgery

Thought I would share this with anyone interested. It's a great computer animation of how the surgeons attach the instrumentation and manipulate the spine into a straighter position.

It is all graphics, no real photos or blood and guts.

    Sandy,

Thank you for sharing that video. I have seen a video of part of an actual surgery where some things make you quesy but this is much better.

That's a great video. It shows how the rotation of the vertebrae is corrected with the 6 inch extensions on top of the screws. Something that was nearly impossible till the pedicle screw was invented.

        Nice find

Yeah I saw that one a few months ago, it's in my favorites! I have like almost 400 favorites! LOL
It is sooooo cool!!! One of the best I've seen but I will caution you in the related videos there are ones that show REAL FOOTAGE from surgery and are not animated. If that kind of stuff bothers you click out of the screen or open another tab. When I watched the real thing it sent shivers down my curvy spine!

Thanks for sharing that link Sandy. I have a few friends, that have asked "How do they do that" after seeing my hardware x-rays, but are queasy to watch the real thing on the net. I'm sure this wll be much kinder to their stomachs.

Yeah, I can handle the real videos somewhat, but my husband and kids cannot. So, it was nice to find an animation that can be shared without the "ew" factor.

Thanks for the link. I have seen other animations of the procedure on different websites, but this is by far, one of the best.

Thanks so much! Now I can show my boyfriend what is involved in the surgery without all the real-life graphic details, and I better understand it too.
