  • Choosing The Right Doctor

I had scoliosis surgery in 1976, at the age of 16, performed by Dr. John H. Moe at Fairview Hospital in St. Paul, MN. I was scheduled for surgery at a major university hospital on a Thursday. Monday of that week an MD co-worker of my father told him that we should see Dr. Moe. My dad made an appointment for Wednesday of that same week to see Dr. Moe. After a one hour visit with Dr. Moe my father cancelled the Thursday surgery with the university hospital doctor and a new one was scheduled with Dr. Moe. The trip to St. Paul was well worth it. Dr. Moe was the pioneer of scoliosis research and is considered the founder of modern scoliosis treatment. I recommend that you research doctors that are part of the Scoliosis Research Society (founded in 1966), or that have received the John H. Moe Fellowship Award. You can Google search John h moe fellowship award, or visit www.srs.org.

The clinic I visited was at that time know as the Scoliosis Center of the World. It is now the Twin Cities Spine Center, www.tcspine.com. Considering the plan of action the previous doctor wanted to use, I believe that my parents choice to have Dr. Moe perform my surgery was correct.

I could fill numerous pages about Dr. Moe. If I had a current need for a scoliosis specialist it would be one that conducted his/her practice with Dr. Moe as a guide post. I would be happy to answer any questions about my experiences or long term results.
