  • Video of Mehta casting technique

I just happened to be doing a search on Ian's doctor and up came this video of him casting a little girl with Infantile scoliosis. Very cool! I was so pleased to see that casting is finally getting some of the recognition it deserves.

I find it really intriguing, and I'm amazed that it never caught on on other countries, because this sort of casting has been done at Stanmore in the UK since at least the late 1970s. IT HAS WORKED FOR YEARS!! I had my first cast applied by this technique in 1976 - they still have the same casting table, and I have young friends with infantile scoliosis who are cast on it today! NB my consultant was a colleague of Ms Mehta's at Stanmore and I met her several times.

I had these sorts of casts applied throughout my childhood until I was 10 years old, and as I got older I didn't need a full general anaesthetic, so I can very clearly remember how it felt to have it all done
