  • Rib Rotation Treatment

Hi, im an 18 y/o male and i had scoliosis surgery on 20 june this year. it is just the one surgery, i dont have to have another.

my problem is the way my ribs look. the left side is rotated more. it is how i look from the front that im worried about most. it is noticable and it looks terrible. my right shoulder blade sticks out a lot more too.

im really self conscious about it. is there a surgery that can treat this problem?

Yes, do a search on thoracoplasty or costoplasty.

      Thanks Linda.

It's actually the right side that is rotated. I made a mistake in the last post.

I don't fully understand it. I just have a few questions

      1. My right arm is is slightly leaning over with the rotated ribs. Will the surgery move my arm back?

      2. My chest is over the left side more. Will the surgery move it back into the middle where it's supposed to be?

      3. Will the hump where my ribs are be the corrected? Will my chest move over to where it was?

      4. I'm still in school. How much will I miss because of the surgery?

        Hi...

Unfortunately, I don't really have the answers to your questions. You need to see a good scoliosis specialist.

        Regards,
        Linda

How about plastic surgery using some kind of implants?

Hasn't anyone ever heard of that for scoliosis, or deformed rib cages? I'm sure a really good reconstructive Doc can implant 2 or 3 implants (one on the opposite side of the rib hump, another under the opposite chest wall, another ?)?
