I have been seeing one too, after a very severe bout of back pain. It has helped the back pain (although has not eliminated it), but I sincerely doubt that it will reduce the curves, or at least that's my chiropractor's opinion. But if nothing else, it does significantly reduce the pain.

thats what the nhs phisio said when i told him he didnt help me and was infact making me feel almost beaten up. i have seen two phisio's in the past and this was the first nhs phisio i had seen. he laid me on my side and pressed down on my rib cage, this made the lump on my chest bulge out and left me feeling bruised inside. suffice to say i never went back again.
i continued to visit my gp to tell him of the pain i was suffering and how the phisio didnt help. what shall i do i asked but the doctor had no answers. so i trained and beat out the pain on the heavy bag. i then fell ill with meningitus and when taken to hospital i was told there was nothing wrong and promtly sent home. 2 days of crippling head pain later and i couldnt move forcing the nhs to make a diagnosis. when being tested for the condition the top of the needle shot off and a needle was pushed into my spinal cord by accident. after 3 monthes i still couldnt bend without terrible pain. i paid £1300 for an mri to see what damage had been done. there is no evidence of damage i am told and for my money i got to keep the scans. the private doctor referred me to the pain specialist but i had no money left so i had to wait 8 months for my appointment. when i went and told them of my scoliosis pain they told me it was all in my head and that the research i had done into my problem was useless and that they basically wanted me out the door and the next nhs patient in!!!! the pain clinics phisio never had chance to give me any phisiotherapy as he spent the whole of two one hour sessions telling me how i would never get any help with pain relief or any other help but his. this was my worst case scenario and he drove all the hope from my soul. he even brain washed my girlfriend into thinking i was imagining the pain. this is too much my scoliosis started when i was 11 and i'm now 27 and it has been a 16 year nightmare that never ends. i have mild scoliosis but i have never been able to get a referal to see a scoliosis specialist. and by the way i once paid £90 to see a top chiropracter and the results of one consultation relieved me of all trapped nerves and i also gained half an inch in height. it didnt last but it was the only time i ever felt like i was getting help.

Now I'm at my third surgery, and doing better, but if ANYTHING would have saved me from these horrible surgeries, I would have taken the option. Chiros didn't help, and I had to have surgery. But do I miss the old days when I had more flexibility, and didn't have to worry about my back or getting surgery again.

I'm happy for you, and I always keep an open mind when someone shares a different story and hope.

Oh, and my doctor when I was a teen pressured the hell out of me to get surgery and I'm glad I didn't, b/c I had some good years when I didn't give a shit about my back and lived my youth(young twenties). Besides the fact that the surgical world evolved by the time I did have surgery, it does every year.

Thanks for your post. I was about to try and the ASCO treatment. It was about 200 miles away. Thanks to your post, I found a doctor from the clear-institute that was only 5 miles from my job. I’ve already started treatment. I can honestly say it’s different from any other chiropractic care I’ve received in the past. My back is really stiff in the thoracic section. That’s where I get a lot of pain. I felt some relief after the first visit. I was surprised. I hope it works. Just wanted to thank you. I was not familiar with the clear-institute. It looks very similar to ASCO. Even if it doesn’t work, it’s better than having to drive 200 miles for similar results.

So what are they doing at the clear institue? What type of excercises do they want you to do? I am thinking about going to see a member of the clear institute but I will have to fly there. It is about 500 miles away. Please keep us posted. All the best. Bish

It started out with a really thorough exam where they took x-rays and a lot of other measurements. The first day lasted about two hours. The next visit, they went over the x-rays. I had an s curve of 17 and 18 degrees. I get a lot of pain since my back is really stiff in the thoracic section. They adjusted me on the first two visits. It was different from any other adjustments that I’ve ever had. Also, on the second visit, they took more x-rays with weights on my head and shoulder. With weights, my curve lessened. I haven’t started the exercises yet but they described several to me. They are going to give me more details on the next visit. They said it will be about an hour a day. One of the exercises is to walk 20 minutes twice a day with the weights. Another is to lay on a neck and back pad for 20 minutes. Another is to do something similar to crunches. The next exercise looked like using a padded neck harness to stretch. I can give you more detail after my next visit on Friday.

My back was a little sore after the fist two visits, but some of the constant pain was reduced. I’m hopeful.

500 miles, that’s rough. My chiropractor wants me to come in three times a week. Let me know how it goes.

I just had my latest results on Friday. My upper curve is 10 degrees and my lower one is 14 degrees. I started at 17 and 18 degrees so I am very pleased. Pain reduced about 75 percent. The pain reduction happened early. It hasn’t improved in weeks but I’m hopeful that it will keep getting better and maybe I’ll be pain free some day.

I was going 3 times a week, now I will start going twice a week. My chiropractor said that now it will be more obvious if I don’t do the exercises. I did them about 70 percent of the time. It’s hard to squeeze all of the exercises in during the day partially because the office is so far from my house. But it’s worth it.

I’m pleasantly surprised. I’ve tried quite a few other specialists. This one really works.

Denverbackchic! Your story is amazing! It actually prompted me to start looking around for chiropractors. I started the Clear-Institute program about 8 weeks ago and all I can say is WOW. After wearing a Copes Brace (ugh, total waste of money) I was pretty skeptical about trying this whole "new" method. As soon as I met with the chiropractor (such a well-educated and amazingly great person), all of my skeptical ideas soon disappeared. He started this treatment a while ago, and he was even skeptical about the whole thing! As most chiropractors are, he was engrossed with the idea of not being able to improve scoliosis curves with chiropractic care. He had tons of patients with huge curves (one even had a 90 degree curve!) but was never able to actually "correct" them. Anyway, he went to one of Dr. Woggon's seminars and was taught this whole different way of treatments. Different, but accurate. He's dealing with 4 cases, mine being one of them. Doing the exercises that are given to you is the main key. If you don't comply with the exercises, it won't work. Everything makes complete sense though! After dealing with having this disease since I was 11, I pride myself in knowing a lot about scoliosis. However, these new things that Dr. Woggon teaches make complete sense!
I have three curves. The one in my neck was around 13 degrees, 57 degrees for the thoracic, and 30 for the lumbar. My case is irregular though. Just from looking at me, you can't really tell that I have a 57 degree curve. My ribs are completely flat, my hips are pretty much even, and my shoulders are basically straight. The only problem is the "hump" on the right side. AND, I never really had any pain from the scoliosis. So of course, the chiropractor was eager to start a case study on me.
Anyway, just after four weeks I gained an inch in height, which means that the curve in my neck got straighter. (Once the cervical and lumbar curves start to decrease, the thoracic has the ability to decrease as well). Although my lumbar curve wasn't moving in the beginning, it's moving now due to added exercises. I'll find out the total degree correction in about a week or so when we do the x-rays.
My chiropractor has told me that when he adjusted me in the beginning, it was like adjusting a slab of concrete. I was so stiff and not flexible at all. I couldn't even slouch. I think that's part of the reason why my scoliosis is not very noticeable, I'm always sitting or standing completely straight. Haha my friends sometimes joke with me that I remind them of a "proper english priss"--never slouching, always straight. But now, at about 6 weeks, I'm SO much more flexible. I can feel such a difference and it's a great one at that!
I could go on and on, and I'd love to! Haha. So if any of you have any questions feel free to email me or reply....I'm not really sure how this whole thing works, I'm new to it. Haha.

Oh I know! I know exactly what you mean. I had dealt with two chiropractors before the one I have now and they were HORRIBLE people. Blah.
I think you just really have to trust your instincts when choosing a chiropractor. Even though the one I have is about an hour away from where I live, I wouldn't trade him for the worldddd!

I have had a pinched nerve in my thigh since Jan. and started seeing a chiro for that. I thought it was ITB syndrome, but she thinks it's a pinched nerve from my scoliosis. She does Active Release Therapy and got rid of the pain in my leg, but not the numbness. Now I also have low back pain and pain in my butt that I didn't have before, so I don't know what to think. She is sending me to a PT to see if he can give me exercises to loosen me up. She says she really can't get me to move. I have S curves but I haven't had them measured for many years. I think the upper was around 45 and the lower was 35.

I have scheduled my daughter to see Dr. Woggon in Sept. for the one week therapy. Do you live nearby and see him regularly or did you also go for the one week and are doing the home prescribed exercises? Did you purchase the scoli chair? How long do the exercises take? I'm very anxious to get her through the treatment, but also nervous and and still somewhat skeptical. It is encouraging to hear other people's stories, I have corresponded with Denverbackchic (Katie). She's really sweet and optimistic. I'm glad it's working for you.

And as far as chiropractors, I'm sure there are bad ones out there, but my daughter's current chiropractor is so wonderful and caring. He has nothing but my daughter's best interests at heart and I know he is doing his absolute best for her. He just spent several thousand dollars in equipment specifically for her scoliosis treatment. On the other hand, the first pediatric orthopedic surgeon we saw was very difficult to talk to, cold and dismissive, we haven't been back to see him and he was probably the catalyst for me wanting to look for other alternatives to the traditional treatment.
