Sounds like you had a rough appointment. It's okay to be mad. I'm not going to tell you "the brace is for your own good; you'll be thankful someday." I'm sure your parents/doctors have all told you that already. It is good that you are voicing your thoughts on this site. You need to get the anger out somehow. Does your Mom look at this site? If not, maybe you should mention it to her. Do you express your feeling/thoughts to your Mom or Dad? As a Mom of a 12 year old daughter with Scoliosis, I know I try to stay very intuned with her feelings (and it is not always easy to know what's going on inside her). Being a pre-teen or teenager is rough enough without having to deal with Scoliosis, braces, doctor appointments, etc. Hang in there and try your best to take it one day at a time. Know that you are not alone in this struggle. There are many of us on this site who are willing to listen if nothing else.

      D,

I wish I had access to the same treatment like you do now. During my time, scoliosis was unheard of (I was born in a third world country) I would have faithfully worn a brace when I was a teen if I had one. My scoliosis never got treated. Now in the US and at past middle age, I don't know what the doctor would recommend to me with this big hump and crooked spine. I'm waiting for an appointment. I remember being resourceful and trying to seek treatment way back then but to no avail. It was frustrating. At this age, I don't know if they can still do something. We'll see. Just by reading all the input in this forum, I am amazed at how varied the treatment are in the United States. Count your blessings. God is in control.

Are you seeing a doctor who specializes in Adult Scoliosis? If not, I would suggest you find one, if possible. Good luck and keep smiling!

Thank you for your advice. I will look into that. I hope there's an adult scoliosis specialist in our area.

If not, come to virginia -_-. Um....I'm in 9th grade, I got my brace 3 days ago....I haven't worn it in school yet though. Also, you should ask the doctor if u can take your brace/cage/*insert bad word here* off during athletics...most scoliosis doctors should allow you to....unless ur curve is really bad.
