    Very scared.. please help!

    Hi, everyone!
I am 24 years old and have been living with chronic back pain for about 4 years now. Recently I inured my lower back and had X-rays, which revealed mild scoliosis (not sure of degree). I am in a lot of pain and my orthopedist prescribed physical therapy while my chiropractor scared me that I am in such a bad shape that I will only get worse and worse. My cervical and lumbar vertebrae have nearly fused and I am really really scared that I will have to live with even worse pain for the rest of my life! What do I do? Is there any hope at all? How can I alleviate the pain? Does anyone know of any ways one could stop vertebrae from fusing? I am so scared and don't know what to do. Doctors seem really not that concerned (my orthopedist said that at my age I have only 2% chance that scoliosis will get worse), but I am in more and more pain and really unsure of what to do. Does anyone have any sites/books/etc that help with posture, proper exercise etc.? Please help!

    Hi la

Not sure what country you are from but if you are from the UK you need to get in touch with the scoliosis association which are on They have told me where my nearest scoliosis specialist is, put me in touch with other people in pain with 'mild scoliosis'. I have only just got into all this myself as I was diagnosed with psoas bursitis for the 3 yrs that I have been waiting to be sorted out. It was only when it didnt show up on the MRI scan and I started looking into it on the net that I realised my pain was probably caused by the scoliosis. Spoke to a lovely lady today who has been having pain killing injections in her joints to sort out the pain and am hoping I will be having the same asap!

Good luck hope this is of help cus I know what its like with the pain and frustration. From what I can gather normal orthopaedic surgeons in the UK just are not up to speed on scoliosis.

    Chin up chuck
