  • 10 Year Anniversary

It's been so long since I checked into the forum that I wasn't even positive of my password. Tomorrow, January 5, will be my 10 year anniversary of my spinal fusion. I don't think I missed a single day in the months prior to my surgery and in the months following surgery to read comments or post questions on this forum. The information and tremendous support I had from the people of this forum made the surgery less frightening and helped with my recovery. I will forever be thankful that Dr. Lenke was my surgeon and also thankful that I've had no complications. Since Dr. Lenke no longer is in St. Louis, I will see Dr. Gupta on January 20 for my checkup. Fortunately, my surgery has not prevented me from playing golf, tap dancing, bike riding, step aerobics, etc.

Karen, You can give me your password....If I get dementia, there will be no guarantees....same old stuff, you know? I don't store passwords anywhere.

Congratulations on your 10 year anniversary!

We had a solid group of members that did so well years ago.....We sure had a lot of fun with all the medical jokes. I am running out of material.... I am probably responsible for at least a few rod breaks around here from laughing so hard.

    Do keep in touch!

      Hello, Ed!

      Ed,
It's good to hear from you. Have you taken up golf yet? Do you remember when I had my surgery and I just couldn't imagine how in the world I could swing a golf club with two long rods in my back? I was strict to not bend, twist, lift for up to a year. If my memory is correct, you posted a video of yourself taking a swing and hitting the ball fairly far. It really did give me hope that I could play golf again following my recovery. I skipped the club championship during my first year of not playing golf, but have won the past 9 years. I'm not boasting, but just posting (hey, that rhymes) so that anyone reading this might be encouraged. I was extremely careful during my recovery to not rush anything the first year and possibly that it one of the reasons that I've been so fortunate. Having Dr. Lenke as my surgeon was a huge factor in my successful surgery. That being said, I know there are many who were just as cautious and had excellent surgeons and still, for one reason or another, needed a revision surgery. I haven't been x-rayed in two years so I'm hoping everything looks good on the 20th.
I need to quit wasting so much time on Facebook and check into the forum more frequently. Most of us posted daily and felt like we were a family for a year or more. I still exchange Christmas cards with a couple of ladies from the forum.
I've missed your humor, Ed, and I hope you are doing well!

Karen, I remember driving a pile of balls back then, and the stability and control of the swing was outstanding!.....I am not surprised you have won over 9 years....

I really walked on eggshells during my first year, having a broken shoulder and arm ensured that. It's impossible to lift things when an arm doesn't work and it also enforces the no lifting rule, and if you can't lift, there really is no reason to bend. I have 5 oversized 13mm PEEK spacers in there, and didn't want to take any chances...It worked. Maybe some of my recovery posts rubbed off from those days....

No golf playing for me, however we did the manufacturing of the LAB B.2 golf putter heads at my old plant before I retired. Kinda got forced into this from a neighbor, and well, put it this way, they are machined and to a high precision level....Every head is exactly the same. We made them from solid 360 Brass and 303 Stainless. They are also balanced on a device to perfection. The guys made several thousand of these on a run. I have no idea what this is worth since I am not a golfer and have no financial interest in this. Figured I would let you know in case you ever run across these putters.

We have had a few trying cases here over the years. Its triggered off a lot of reading, wondering why things go wrong when they do.
