  • Dr Yves Cotrel Obituary 1925-2019

    https://britscoliosis.org.uk/News/7165335

Dr Cotrel was HUGE in the scoliosis community. He invented and revolutionized the modern hardware systems that are used today....

I read his autobiography years ago "In the Sands of Berck" and have watched a few videos of him speaking for his foundation. All the money that was made off the CD systems was and is used for scoliosis research since all the scoliosis patients paid such a heavy price. He traveled the world and talked with scoliosis surgeon's globally to discuss mistakes that were made, and how to prevent them in the future.

I was one who waited for technology since I needed to be fused to the pelvis as a teenager years ago in 1975. In 1986, the CD system was in the news here in the US and this was good news. Harrington rods didn't fuse to the pelvis, Luque wires had wires which pulled through bone, the pedicle screw was the best fixation method.

    This man is a Saint....

He passed away on my 11th surgical anniversary.
