Hi Kara,
Does the person who has broken ribs have scoliosis?
Are you asking why people break ribs?
Best regards,

I actual asking because, yesterday I went to the hospital here with supecetted pneumonia because I been sick for like over a month. They did a chest X-Ray. I don't have pneumonia thank god. I have bronitis and a sinus infection. But in the X-rays I just a bit confused There is mild deformity of the right posterior seventh and eighth ribs from old, healed fractures.Kara

Maybe you can ask the doctor who read your xray if the healed ribs are really the result of rib removal.Sharon, mother of identical twin girls with scoliosis

Kara...
I'm almost positive that your "broken" ribs were actually the ones that were cut to do your thoracoplasty.

Kara,
I fell and broke a rib and have not had surgery. I'm pretty sure you'd know if you had a previous injury. I'm thinking what Linda said is most likely the cause. Ask your doctor. Do your ribs hurt or was it just an incidental finding on your x-ray?
Today at my appointment I asked my doctor if broken bones can hurt for life. He said in some people, yes. I asked him because my rib still hurts at times and I broke it seven months ago! It is my seventh rib on the left side and just a little toward the front. It's right where my bra goes around. Sometimes I can't wear a regular bra or anything that is tight around there. But, then again my "new" rib hump hurts, too, just not as bad. My new rib hump goes out the side and not out the back like my first hump. I think it's the muscles and other tissue stretching that hurts. The top (first) one doesn't hurt unless I'm sitting in a hard high back chair and lean on it. Getting off topic, sorry.
If yours doesn't hurt, your doctor did a mighty fine job! There's no way to set a rib unless you are in there. I'm not sure what they do with the procedure you had done. Is it to reduce your rib hump?
Wishing you all the best. Get better!

I'll agree with Linda.
The healed cut rib edges would look not really different than a fracture in terms of how it appears on xray though a bit 'cleaner'. The radiology would have had to been notified of the throcoplasty for the radiologist to know. They are more likely to see a healed rib fracture vs. a healed throcoplasty.Last edited by green m&m; 03-26-2016, 09:48 PM.30 something y.o.
