She's seeing someone at WashU in St. Louis. There may be surgeons there that I haven't heard of, but even if that's the case, the surgeons there are getting world class training. I would personally trust anyone at WashU, unless they hadn't done a lot of these surgeries.
Lauren... I was originally fused to L3, and then had revision to S1 with pelvic fixation. In my case, it made a lot of difference in flexibility. Since I have no lower back pain, I would make the same decision today, but it doesn't stop me from being really unhappy that I've lost so much flexibility. You'll find, however, that there are others who were in the same situation, who don't feel very limited in terms of flexibility.
