Someone expert is going to take your insurance. They have to.

Did you solve your cortisol/hormone issue?

Hugs to you and baby Sparky monkey.

          • That's great news! I also reached out to Dr. Betz as promised for a recommendation, so we'll see what he says. Look at you - now you may have several docs to choose from :-))))

I think Sparky had something to do with this - LOL!

Jess, just say, “I’m back, What am I going to do?”

                  Just sit back and listen....

There is a time when we all have to accept the fact that we cant go on doing what we are doing living in misery....You have to realize that its just not worth continuing on like this and that surgery is your only hope. That’s the way I felt....It didn’t matter if I couldn’t bend or ski or whatever, its not about that. Its about cutting losses, reducing pain, and getting it done before its too late.

I think that we have a tendency to get all jammed up in our minds about this.....it’s a time that we need to control our anxiety, and try to think logically.....again, breathe deep!!!

And ask him one more question....

                  “Will it help?”

                        • Jess,
I wish you could follow me around for a day. You would be amazed at what I do in a day, from weeding landscaping, washing windows, taking exercise classes at the Y, playing 18 holes of golf, riding my bike, etc. I was scared to death and thought my life as I knew it and enjoyed it (I wasn't in much pain) might be nonexistent after surgery. I don't bend in the middle of my back, but go down on one knee all day long to feed my dog or pick up something off of the floor or I can also do the a one legged reach. People fused to the sacrum can bend at the hips just not the middle of their backs. Surgery is no fun, however, eventually when the spine is fused, for the majority of us, our futures are soooooo much more promising than if we chose to not have surgery with a curve that would most likely increase and cause increasing pain. Watch my video again and remember that it was over two years ago. I am much more flexible now. I can also stand for as long as I have to where I used to seek a seat whenever I was out. You can do it!!!!

                          • Hi Jess,

I'm new to the forum and considering surgery also. I have to say Karen's reply to your thread is inspiring. Today I'm in so much pain I have two lidocaine patches on my back and it killed me to walk through a garden center with my husband...and my favorite thing to do is walk through garden centers. So now I'm sitting here thinking about what else I can do to alleviate my pain; what drug, what stretch, heat, cold...you name it. I don't want this surgery either but I know that I can't stand living like this. Or more importantly...not living.

It's a big decision, but from what I've been reading on the forum you seem like a smart lady. Look to the future; sometimes that's all we can do.

                            I'm rooting for you!!

you sound amazing in that you can do so many things....
one thing you mentioned does worry me a little...
both of my knees are not good...one has a medial meniscus
                              tear...the other a cyst...both have arthritis...

Diane, i am glad if the lidocaine patches help you...
i hope they can do the trick and you do not need oral
                              meds...?

thanks to everyone on forum who has kindly expressed
concern and support for me...it is appreciated more than
                              i can say...

                              • I am fortunate that my knees are still in good shape, but I can see why it would be a concern and something to mention to the surgeon. It might be a good thread to start and ask how those have had surgery and also have knee replacements or other knee issues deal with picking up things once restrictions are lifted. I am able to pick up things off of the floor without squatting down on one knee by holding on to something with one hand and leaning over while kicking one leg out behind me. Someone on the forum called it a golfer's reach which I had never heard of before.
