  • Celebrex - anybody tried?

Congratulations baby girl. It's another degenerative disc!

Anyone tried Celebrex please? I guess it's a one day and strong form of Advil, Motrin and the like -- an anti-inflamatory.

Sorry if I seem cocky in my lead sentence. Sarcasm and humor go a long way.

    Age: 48
    Surgery: 1979 - Harrington Rod
Degrees: Really? I think it was 58 on top ... I don't remember anything else. I don't want to.
    Growth: 3 inches with surgery.

Other: degenerated discs above and below rod.
Treatment: Best evah! Therapy. This guy showed me my MRIs. He explained how nerves work. He showed me steering wheels. No 10 and 2 people. 8 and 4. I feel it coming and he showed me ways to get out of it.

Narcotics: none so far and who cares they did nothing for the neck anyway. Advil has modest effect on lower spine. Troubles: in and out of cars. Standing.

Sex: awesome. I'm still a normal girl.

Houston girl. You out there anywhere?

Life: I don't lift anything really anymore. I dread vacuum cleaners. May as well take drugs before I even start.
Traction at 13, body cast 1 mos., Milwaukee, first plastic (severe allergy, abdomen skin burst, watery) then leather. Harrington Rod @ 15, 9 mos body cast, hips up. 9 more mos being careful and protective. Degenerated disc C4-5 I think well above the rod. Degenerated disc below the rod now? Probably.

    Pain after Harrington Rod surgery?

Have you consulted a scoliosis specialist who has experience with previously fused persons? Your problems are not uncommon after Harrington rod surgery because the normal lordotic curve was often not preserved. This caused severe stresses on the unfused area/discs - especially in the lumbar region. Any pain medication will not solve the underlying problem. I had stomach issues with Celebrex. While taking it I did not feel stomach pain because that medicine itself actually masked the stomach pain it caused me.
    Original scoliosis surgery 1956 T-4 to L-2 ~100 degree thoracic (triple)curves at age 14. NO hardware-lost correction.
Anterior/posterior revision T-4 to Sacrum in 2002, age 60, by Dr. Boachie-Adjei @Hospital for Special Surgery, NY = 50% correction

Be very careful with Celebrex.....this is one you don’t want to overtake, or really use for a long period of time.....

I gained a bunch of weight eating, trying to counter the stomach issues....I eventually quit after 9 months.

Celebrex is in the Cox 2 inhibitor class of drugs...
i had a bad allergic reaction to Vioxx, another Class 2 inhibitor medication that has been taken off the market...
Vioxx cut off my breatheing after i took it for 2 weeks...too bad, as it relieved a lot of my pain...
now i cannot take any Cox 2 inhibitor medication...
        that includes Celebrex and Bectra...

just be careful...Cox 2 inhibitors are strong medications...

Bextra has been yanked due to heart attacks and law suits.

Nice to know these things AFTER you take them..... Good thing I have a strong heart.

On September 2, 2009, the United States Department of Justice fined Pfizer $2.3 billion after one of its subsidiaries, Pharmacia & UpJohn Company, pled guilty to marketing four drugs including Bextra "with the intent to defraud or mislead."[3] Pharmacia & UpJohn admitted to criminal conduct in the promotion of Bextra, and agreed to pay the largest criminal fine ever imposed in the United States for any matter, $1.195 billion.[4

Always read the fine print!!!!! On any medication!!!!!

i wonder what the difference is, between Celebrex and the other 2...Vioxx and Bextra...
since 2 of the 3 are off the market by now...
i cannot even try Celebrex, for fear it will cause an allergic reaction the way Vioxx did....
they are all the same class of drug...

I was on Celebrex for about a year when I was having painful neck issues when it was fairly new on the market. I had no problems while on it and I guess it helped with the pain for awhile and then it seems as though my body adjusted to it and it didn't work for me anymore. I had no stomach issues though and no heart problems.

This really is difficult to answer your question. “Does it matter”? when this case was the LARGEST criminal fine EVER imposed in the United States for any matter. Pfizer initiated this dilemma, and created quite a mess that has not been resolved. Its not resolved....they are also repeat fraud offenders and its a global problem.

Can we trust them? This is an ethics matter, that has gone straight down the toilet at everyone’s expense. Since these Pfizer cronies didn’t go to jail, which company will they work for next? Which med will they push? Will HueyLewis sing “I need a new drug” ever again if he knew the truth?

Its about trust, and intent. A total lack of integrity on an extremely sensitive issue. We are talking about people’s lives, peoples health. Parents of children.....our future. Our health care system.

Who’s next? Greed will determine this. This behavior needs to stop and should not be repeated ever again.

I’m just blowing some steam.....I don’t know if I can ever cool off about this one.

Once again, always read the fine print when taking medications.

well, i was asking in terms of safety of one med vs. another...
and there is little way to know if one is allergic to a medication if one has never had
an allergic reaction to it before, or has never taken it before...
i could not have known what would happen before it took it...even when it happened,
it happened after 2 weeks of taking it...at first i thought it was from stress! i loved what Vioxx
did for my pain...probably didn't want to admit the drug was at fault...

i know the pharmaceutical companies may have questionable morals and ethics...
but we need their products so often....even if for other things besides for pain...

The cox2 inhibitor subset of NSAIDs were "supposed" to be designed NOT to interfere with the gut as it was believed that the cox1 enzyme was responsible for gut protection while cox2 was responsible for inflammation. Guess they were wrong about something, eh? ALL of the NSAIDs can cause heart attack. Read the fine print on any bottle of ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen sodium (Aleve, Naprosen). I actually went into a VERY scary tachy arrhythmia just from taking ibuprofen. These are very dangerous drugs. Oh, and don't forget the kidney disease that they cause.

I haven't had a cox2 inhibitor because my doc was still afraid of them when I asked to be put on one to preserve my guts. I guess I can thank him for that one.

With that said, NSAIDs, when taken at the right dose have proven to be just as effective or more so than the narcotics (for moderate pain), without giving any mind altering side effects. But, the bad news is I CAN'T take them any more because they light my guts on fire, send me into tachycardia and have caused stage 2 kidney disease. So I have to stick to my narcotics when I have pain. Right now I'm trying to get more fit, so that I can reduce or eliminate my need for narcotics.

                      WOW. Enough said there.
                      Be happy!

only Vioxx gave me real pain relief....no other similar type meds, gave me relief...
nothing close to relief of pain meds...
i was tried on several NSAIDS, before i had stomach problems from long term oral antibiotics for continuing Lyme disease...

i wish they had a replacement for Vioxx that didn't cause heart problems...
or a steroid without side effects...
