      • Thanks all for the words of encouragement. We will be leaving late this afternoon for Portland (2 hr drive away) after farming the kids out to their friends' houses. I'm going to miss them a lot but they will stay in the routine of school with friends, which will be good for them, and Tim will drive back Friday afternoon to bring them to see me for the weekend.

I am going to eat very lightly today so that my stomach is good and empty for tomorrow. The pre-surgical doctor who did my history ad physical exam told me to make sure and stay very hydrated today as a way to help ward off my usual severe post-op nausea and vomitting.

I am ready to get this done, but of course it is pretty daunting thinking about the surgery. I am taking lots of deep breaths and thinking about all the positive support I have (here and friends) going in to this. I set up a new Care Page so interested folks can follow my progress:

It is called GayleTake3 if the link does not work. (Carepages.com)

XLIF/Posterior Surgery 6/16/08. Fused T10-L5 in CA by Dr. Michael Kropf (don't go there unless it's simple, I hear he's at Cedar's now). Very deformed, had revision w/5 PSO's, rods from T-3 to sacrum including iliac screws, all posterior, 5/23/16 with Dr. Purnendu Gupta of Chicago.

I also thought that the ALIF was not a problem. I had some discomfort, but put an ice bag on the area which helped a lot.

                        • Surgery successful

                          Hi all,

Surgery went well Wednesday. Dr Hart said there was a pseudoarthrosis plus I think he said there two small bone fractures. I will have to ask him again once I'm less looped. There was apparently a ton of scar tissue in back, so he made two additional posteriors incisions along with reopening most of the posterior incision. I think I go for X-rays today.

I was weaned very quickly off iv dilaudid (too quickly I think) and am now just on oral oxycodone and Tylenol. I am going to add flexeril in for muscle spasms too.

                          That's all for now.
