So, I posted a while back that I was having trouble breathing, and had a bad cough since I had the surgery.
I already had asthma for years, but it was mainly activity induced, and I hadn't even needed an inhailer for the last 4-5 years. Anyway, my asthma symptoms have gotten gradually worse since I've had the surgery, to the point where I am now taking 2 asthma medications, and using a nebulizer 4-6 times a day. When I do my PT, it's very bad on those days.
My GP said I needed to go see an asthma specialist because the stuff I've been doing/taking doesn't seem to be working, so I went today and he had some interesting thoughts on why my symptoms are so bad right now.
He thinks because they moved my lungs during the surgery that it irritated my lungs so much that they couldn't handle my allergies during the spring. He also thinks that the muscles around my lungs are so tight because of the surgery, that it makes it hard for my lungs to relax or take a full breath.
Anyway, I was just curious if anyone else has had anything similar. It could just be the perfect storm of my allergies going crazy in the spring and the way my muscles are soo tight plus the irritation caused by the movement of the lungs during surgery.
It's annoying as all get out, but he has me taking some oral steroids to see if that'll calm me down. I go back monday for a bunch of tests to see what I'm actually allergic too.
My husband was laughing the other day about how it seems like I got all the bad genes in the family...I'm one of 5 kids and I'm the only one with scoli, asthma, and I'm extremely nearsighted. I'm the quintessential nerd. =)
