  • Surgery went well!

My daughter had her surgery on May 16th. She was in for just over 7 hours. They had problems initially getting her pain under control but once it was, she was pretty good. We were discharged yesterday, this first night home was really tough, different bed, having to walk stairs, etc.

I have updated my blog if anyone wants to view it, it's in my signature.

Glad to hear surgery is over and went well and that your daughter is on the road to recovery.

Kids are so resilient and I will be hoping that she bounces back even quicker than you imagine!

Congratulations on a successful surgery! The first night home was very rough for us too - pretty awful, but each day was better and easier than the next. Make sure to keep her walking as much as possible throughout each day. It's really great for pain control.

          Mother of Alexander & Zachary:
Alex is 16 years old and in the 11th grade. He has congenital scoliosis due to a hemivertebrae at T10. Wore a TLSO brace for 3 1/2 years. Pre-op curves were T45 & L65; curves post-op are approx. T31 & L34. Had a posterior spinal fusion from T8 to L3 on 7/12/07 at age 12. Doing great now in so many ways, but still working on improving posture.
Zach is 13 years old and very energetic.

            Thank you!

Did you all take them out for walks or do you just mean around the house? And if you went outside for walks, how long did they walk for?

Alexander walked outside a little further every day - first to the end of our driveway, then to the corner, then a block, etc. He was walking like this (with me usually) a few times each day for about six weeks after his surgery, i.e. until school started. After he started back to school, we walked after school and/or if he felt sore or had any pain. It was better than taking tylenol for easing any discomfort.
