rib removal

I am writing for my 77 y.o. mother that has a >40 degree thoracolumbar curve. She has begun to experience pain when her rib/s touch and get caught behind her pelvis.
Can a few of the lower ribs be removed on that side?

floating ribs

They removed part of 1 or 2 floating ribs during my surgery. The ribs serve to protect your internal organs, but one can get along without parts that are causing this type of problem. Here's a pic (not of me)
