  • Amazing correction! God bless Shriners.

I would recommend anyone with an extremely large curve to go the Shriners route and get their expert care, whether they have insurance or not.

It really makes me angry to hear about other kids that don't get the halo traction and have to endure very difficult operations, major complications and large remaining curves after the surgery when results like this can be obtained!

    • Hard to believe the amount of correction. And what is this? A 90 degree correction? Wow!

Will they get him up today?

          ^^ Ditto to this!
I also recommend that any Canadian parents who have kids that need surgery but are put on brutal wait lists while their child deteriorates in front of their eyes, that they contact the Canadian branch of Shriners in Montreal, Quebec. Once they determine what type of medical care is needed for your child, they will put you in touch with the hospital that deals with that specific specialty that is the closest to where you live. Canadian Shriners are VERY active all across Canada and they were/are a God-send for us. Simply amazing!

90* is my guess also. If so he got > 80% correction which is pretty far up there. I think he has the record. He deserves it. He earned it.

WOW, Elias's x-ray just took my breath away. I am so thrilled for you both!

I thought of you guys last weekend also when I was at the pet store--they had 5-day old baby chinchillas...incredibly cute and small.

Keep us posted, we love reading of Elias's incredible success.

I'll post the actual measurement when I get it. As far as 'winning the record' for most crooked spine straightened... reminds me of when I was at a Mary Kay makeup party where we all showed up bare faced and applied makeup and I won the 'most improved with makeup face' LOL. Not sure how I feel about that award.

Today was a total rest day, so no attempt to even sit up on the edge of the bed and dangle. Dr. K did say this morning to let him rest so that's what we're doing. He sure seems comfortable in this regular hospital bed compared to the rock hard circle bed b/c he can push the buttons on the side and adjust it to how he likes it as well as he's got a real pillow under his head.

There's 25 private rooms here on this floor and there's 22 kids here today so this is the busiest it's been. Still amazingly quiet though so maybe they're all drugged up, heh.
