  • I feel like such a crybaby.

Is it normal to start crying unexpectedly at odd moments the day or two before surgery?
I feel so SAD, but I don't know why.
I've been pretty calm about all of this up until now. It's upsetting.

    Awh Juliet,

I can't tell you how many BUCKETS of tears I cried during the months prior to surgery. Don't feel like a crybaby--it's perfectly normal.

This is the MOST stressful time either before or after surgery. I felt like I just wanted to jump out of my skin.

Good luck, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you on the other side.

    ((Hugs))

YES...buckets, rivers, oceans of tears. It even got to be a joke in our house -- I would half-cry, half-laugh at the slightest thing. You will be okay!!

Thanks Debbe -- talk about jumping out of my skin! I've been crawling off into dark corners just to reduce the sensory input. Thank you for the reassurances and hugs!

And thank you too, Chris - Now I'm crying and laughing at the same time. It makes me feel better to know I'm not alone in this!

This is always an emotional time of year for me anyway - My first husband was run over and killed by a drunk driver 24 years ago. He died at the same hospital where I'll be, and coincidentally on the same date (Oct 26th). That could be a factor too, I guess.

I'm thinking about JChris this morning, in progress! Prayers and good vibes.

Juliet - good luck with your surgery. Also be prepared for crying bouts while on your pain medicine. It is all very normal and expected. Hang in there!!

            Juliet,
Good luck with your surgery. My surgery date isn't until Jan. 5, but I find myself getting really sentimental about things that I know I won't be able to do for a long time after surgery. I know from reading this forum that it is normal to cry at the drop of a hat before surgery. You'll do just fine.

Thanks, Karen and Shari - I'm having a good moment right now, tired. But my back is killing me, so I'm good 'n' ready to get it fixed once and for all.
              I'll cry tomorrow ...!

                      Surgery Meditation

Here is a link for some surgery meditation.

                      http://www.healthjourneys.com/kaiser...fulSurgery.asp

Yoga breathing and some meditation can give something "to do" when your mind takes over and gets you where you don't want to go.
