in NYC, i've found several surgeons who DO believe in the pain with scoli....i believe those other doctors are wrong, that a twisted back will cause pain by itself...but doctor ignorance is an old, stubborn problem for people with many conditions and illnesses...like the "brilliant" specialist at Sloan Kettering who told me "tumor in your left leg doesnt hurt, they just dont hurt"!! that compares to the Lyme doctor at the "specialty" hospital on Long Island who told me "you dont need pain meds cause Lyme doesnt hurt that much"!!
i no longer tolerate that stuff from any doctors...i never go back...i feel bad for you that you live somewhere that doesnt have enough doctors to offer you better!!
i think most pain doctors believe their patients...is that the case with the one you found?

My surgeon in Charlotte believed me since 2007 that scoliosis is painful .When I first visited him in the fall of 2007, he told me that I would be coming back to him to set up surgery within 18 months because the pain would be so bad. He was so right. I should have gone back earlier to see him but family life got in the way

It's just the scoli docs that don't believe me. All the other docs do. Sometimes I think it's just pigheaded arrogance! When your neurosurgeon, your pain specialist, your PCP ALL tell you it's scoli related, then the scoli surgeon says, no it's not, it gets quite frustrating. The pain doc doesn't want me to have surgery, though. He says a pretty straight spine isn't necessarily a pain free spine. It's all so overwhelming!

Maybe N.C. docs are more compassionate. I traveled there for a different surgery several years ago.
