Darrin et al., if you're in Europe the best source of references to a Schroth therapist near you, who can almost certainly help relieve your pain fairly soon, is the clinic where most of them were...
Paget, if pain is your primary reason for surgery, you might first try visiting a Schroth specialist who is very near Arlington.

A Schroth therapist can often take care...
Elyse,
There's a physical therapist named Dori Rubin in the Ft Lauderdale area who has scoliosis herself and went through a Schroth program as a patient, then got certified as a Schroth therapist....
You might contact Luke Stikeleather at www.orthoticsolutions.com -- in the D.C. area. He not only makes braces but also works with physical therapists who might be able to help you.
Good luck!
Rohrer,
Did you ever call one of the Schroth clinics in Stevens Point or Milwaukee? See my post on the first page of this thread. If your pain is primarily related to scoliotic posture, they can...
Rorhrer,
It makes my heart hurt to read about you and so many others suffering constantly and taking all kinds of pain medications.
If you are in Madison, you are about 100 miles from two...
I agree with the others, esp. Back-out. Pain meds miss the point and have problematical side effects.
I had awful back pain myself years ago after carrying boxes while moving. Professional...
I think there are several reasons to consult a real Schroth PT, even in a series of intermittent short visits (a day or two at a time) if necessary, rather than do-it-yourself over the internet.

Yes, thanks for the pointer. I'm aware of that thread, but a lot of forum members are unlikely to read 23 pages of discussion before they find the reference. I started a separate thread for this...
Many NSF forum members will know the name of Dr. Martha Hawes, a plant physiologist at the Univ. of Arizona who was diagnosed with scoliosis as a pre-adolescent but refused surgery. Instead, she...
Quite by chance, there is a new publication at Scoliosis Journal in which Martha Hawes brings her case up to date. It appears that she cut her curves in half, or at least by a quarter, depending on...
Medicine is an infinitely complex field, as is virtually any discipline once you start investigating aspects closely. Nobody in the field knows everything, in fact daily they know proportionately...
There is an extensive article on specialized physical therapy for post-operative patients at:

Click on the US/UK flags, then in the left margin click...
Please have a look at my response to another recent thread on essentially the same topic, scoliosis-related pain.

Best of luck finding an...
There is one non-surgical option that you do not mention, unless a Schroth physical therapist was among those you consulted. In my observation (of other cases) and my own personal experience, as well...
It's very common in scoliosis for one hip to be shifted laterally outward. This and general posture are some of the main things that Schroth therapy focuses on correcting.
When I evaluate a healthcare practitioner for prospective treatment, the primary criteria are medical-professional background and competence. Does the practitioner understand intimately how to treat...
Emily, what area of the country are you located in?
For those of you post-operatives who are experiencing pain, a Schroth therapist who knows what she/he is doing can usually reduce or eliminate it quite rapidly.
For some post-op exercises see:

I'm afraid that this response completely misses the point. It's actually quite astonishing, this unwillingness to recognize the seriousness of the overall issue. I think "insensitive" is an accurate...
Thanks for the excellent advice, Betty. That is a profoundly insightful post. I'll henceforth pay no attention to those who deserve no attention.
I will not undertake an extended argument with pooka about evidence and facts, because with her any discussion is futile. The reader of all these posts will note that she has prejudged the entire...
Frankly I doubt the accuracy of this formula. The few posts in this thread by people who say that they seldom post any more because of trepidation are a poignant testimony to how bad the atmosphere...
I respectfully disagree with Linda's response. For one thing, I cannot imagine that Joe wants to dive in whenever his intellect is questioned. He's got bigger issues to take care of.
Also, this...
