We're back!
DD17 had fusion T3-L2 in 2014. We've had regular check ins with our surgeon. But now I'm not sure all is well. Am waiting a follow up call after receiving latest radiology report.

Makes me glad we did the surgery at 15 yrs for a 60 degree curve. At 35 years old it would potentially have been closer to 70-80 degrees.
Not opioids as she hasn't had anything in weeks. She hasn't taken any meds at all, just a Tylenol, since week three. I think it s a combination of healing skin and sensations in some spots not...
thanks! you know they probably told us this, but then it is a lot to remember.
did your daughters regain sensation around the incision? how long did it take? DD is saying it itches but she...
I'm reading this with interest as my dd who is four weeks post op has a very noticeable higher left shoulder which is opposite of how she was before surgery. She says she cannot drop it down. I take...
Home after 11 days in the hospital. Leak repaired. Much less pain now..no painkillers at all in almost two weeks. Glad that's DONE.
Blood patch deemed not recommended based on location of leak (T4-T6) and a lumbar drain is being used to decrease pressure and allow for the site to heal.
resting comfortably in hospital but...
We are back in hospital today with CT scan tomorrow. Surgeon thinks a small tear seen during surgery but which sealed during surgery may have reopened. Some issue with abnormally small pedicles and...
Does anyone here have first hand experience with a CSF leak post fusion? DD15's was 11 days ago, and while she suffered a rare CSF leak detected day three post surgery (small pedicles, screw nicked...
Hi there
Well, the long road is ending with surgery on Tuesday for DD15's spinal fusion. As you can read here, didn't think we'd end up here, but here we are. We are having it done at Lurie...
The surgeon really is booked up, operating twice weekly on scoliosis cases, and the timing just isn't there to do it sooner.
Thanks all for the kind words everyone.
She is in discomfort. Her back hurts. A lot. Who said scoliosis I doesn't hurt? Haha liars. Her legs also hurt sometimes, which is not surprising I...
Thanks Sharon. Wow who knew when we got on the train where we'd end up. DD is not happy but what more could we have done and what else can we do? I told her the exact same thing on the way home today...
We went back for another check in. The curve has increased ten degrees in six months, to 60. We've scheduled the surgery for July, after a science camp my teen really wants to attend. There will be...
DD14 has started complaining of pain in her left arm, specifically her fore arm. She says it feels as though there is no blood flow to it and it really hurts. Obviously there is plenty of blood flow...
I'm looking for general advice. I know all cases are unique. If your teen has had this surgery, barring complications etc, at what point did they feel and act back to their old self again? We...
Dr today said the minimal procedure is not a good option for a kid with eight or nine vertebra to be fused. After a lengthy discussion we nixed the idea.
Linda i can see where you are coming from. I've also subsequently read that the size of the opening can not only impede the ability to use the right mechanical components (screws, rods etc.) but that...
Inventor may be her word not his, but he's undoubtedly a big deal in the field.

Minimally invasive surgery is now a reality for spine surgeries,...
It turns out my MIL apparently is good friends with Dr. Fessler who is a distinguished spine surgeon and inventor of minimally invasive (endoscopic) scoliosis surgery. My MIL is getting quite a bit...
Following up. She's not in the tethering range at all. Discussed her situation with Dr. Newton's nurse at Raday in SD where they perform this as with her ortho. She's a Risser 4 and her Tri radiate...
We've scheduled a meeting with Dr. Grayhack at Lurie Children's In Chicago for 12/20 to ask questions, and I am speaking to someone this evening whose child had the tethering last month at Shriner's...
48 degrees. He's referred us to the surgeon.
We have the normal 6 month out of brace X-ray tomorrow. Our last check in was June showing no progression since December 2012. If tomorrow's X-ray shows no progress (please!!) would it be...
