Okay ... so what I'm asking now is how did you make the jump from "muscular weakness" to "pneumatic skeleton collapsed"?
I think what concerns me most is your previous post:

flerc,
Has any doctor - of any type - supported your observation? Does your daughter observe the same?
How have you compared her to her peers?
flerc,
How do you gauge "reduced volume"?
FLK ...
I've been away a while: Is your surgeon still the same one who advised you to walk 15 miles (or something ridiculous like that) a *day*?
Hang in there.
Pam
Thank you, Linda. I decided to sit on it for a day ... and your assessment is still more gentle.
You just can't lump all those studies in together, rohrer. It *isn't* what it is.
How are you "absolutely sure"?
It's not even universally true for the middle aged group. We don't all correct (compensatory) on the table.
My curve was ±53° at my last pre-op x-ray, with +2 rotation.
While Hanson didn't do bending films (I don't think he usually does on adults), he visually inspected lateral bending and estimated 50%...
Just tossing this in the mix ...
A weak anterior serratus muscle (or damaged long thoracic nerve) can also allow the scapula to wing - scoliosis or no scoliosis. If your physician okays it, there...
rohrer,
I think maybe I wasn't clear in my previous post ...
I had full on fusion surgery ±30 years after I was initially braced as a kid. My "better" option was simply improved surgical...
I am SO glad I waited until 39 to have surgery: Technology came a long way in the years since I was diagnosed. Just my opinion, but without evidence of curve progression, surgery should always be...
By "prepare", I mean I set my house up, cooked ahead and froze meals, etc.: I had a massive (amusing, in retrospect) pre-op to-do list that covered contingencies upon contingencies. I had air horns...
Yes, I agree it makes sense in the early stages of fusion.
That said, the inflammatory response is the first phase of fusion (of healing *any* injury), and I'm not sure how long that phase lasts...
Completely solo. That said, I spent the better part of two months in preparation to do so.
I was 39.
No rehab for me with my posterior only fusion. I came home on the morning of Day 6, and recovered solo.
Everyone's different.
No idea on that. :) Personally, I wasn't told to avoid NSAIDs - but a lot of people are.
Here's what the SRS says ...
I guess in a literal sense, the inflammatory response kick starts fusion immediately (or very soon after) surgery. It's somewhat debatable when it can actually be seen.
In my case, evidence of...
Sorry, Janet, but I just wanted to correct this before anyone freaks out ...
It's not Tylenol (acetaminophen) that's restricted after surgery.
Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.) - and other...
Sharon,
I knew your girls had the same fusion levels as me, but I didn't realize their apices were also identical to mine.
Anyway, regarding T12 vs. L1, I've never heard of any reason to extend...
"Renovated" ... love it! :)
What? You posted a photo? :)
I'm going to go out on a limb here: I think you're 100% secure in your uniqueness! :)
Vive la difference, my friend.
I brought mine, but I also have it covered under a separate rider on my renters insurance. My *son's* laptop (on Okinawa) is also on my policy.
It's cheap to add a computer to homeowner or renter...
This wasn't at all the case with me: I wonder why?
