I hope everyone who is getting snowed on doesn't get buried. Wow. Rough winter.
Jess I just can't imagine going through a surgery for cysts and and then having to drain another one! What is going on? What is their best guess?
Please hang in there and stay safe.
-
thanks, Sharon
this is result of puppy mill...defiinitely.
Sparky's body keeps forming "structures" almost as if, the
surgeon said, his body is trying to form female structures....
from getting TOO much hormone while still in mother dog's
womb...that is their best guess why it keeps happening
over and over...
i do not know how many surgeries this poor boy can go thru....
he started getting sick before his 4th bday....he just turned
8 years old.
thanks for the kind concern....
the snow complicates getting to appts....forecast
for another 10 inches snow Sunday,....his appt is
Monday...i thought i was watching a TV rerun when i
saw the weather....nope....new forecast
-
wouch....ouch...
a crooked spine and no sleep...
up all nite with puppy in such discomfort...so went to vet this morning...
sure enuf...as i suspected...another cyst...
vet drained it...got 3/4 of a regular size syringe filled
with yellow stuff out of it...poor boy...
he is finally sleeping, and i am gonna do same...
my spine hurts badly from being up and worried all nite long...
i think the worry causes tension that goes thru my back.
he will still see regular vet Monday Feb 16th...weather permitting...
i will not see my pain doc til March 3rd, having cancelled Feb 11th
appointment due to snow.
woofs to all...

my back froze today like a gorilla was on it....
Sparky at vet...has 3 more cysts...small, size of walnuts..
i do not call that small for 10 pound dog...
why do they keep re occurring...? he is a puppy mill
dog, that is why...it is congenital cause...that is all
vets can say....they said it is most unusual for a fixed
dog to have a large prostate the way Sparky does...
the cysts are connected to his prostate.
my back went into a spasm while i sat there and listened
to vet...she gave puppy anti inflammatory shot cause he
is so uncomfortable...sent urine out to lab to check
continuing UTI....gave him 200 ml of fluid subcutaneously...
and i sat with my spine in spasms...waiting for Sparky to
be done with tx....i got his nails clipped cause i have not been
able to get him to groomer with snow on snow on snow...
now my spine is tight as a drum and i don't see pain doc
til March 3rd...but my sweet puppy is not getting better...
& there is little to be done. surgery helps but then the
problem returns....fast.
jess....& Sparky
-
Jess I am worried about you and the bunny. The bad weather is just making things harder unfortunately.
Is removing the prostate an option?
-
thanks Sharon, for your kindness and concern.
it is deeply appreciated.
removal of prostate causes incontinence in almost every case.
most neutered dogs who were fixed on time as puppies have
tiny prostates...Sparky's is not right...it is large...it is not formed
as most...it should barely be visible on ultra sound as he was
fixed at correct time when baby...
they keep saying "congenital"
i am beyond sad...he is so sweet and good and just
wants to be a little healthy happy puppy, the way he was
supposed to be...Maltese retain puppy-like qualities all their
lives, per breed description.
the stress and distress has me a wreck...physically as well as
emotionally....

Oh, Jess - I have not been on the forum in over a week and I am SO sad and upset to read what you and Sparky are going through. I know his problems make yours worse by causing so much tension and worry. Isn't there anything else they can do for that poor baby?? My heart breaks for him and I know yours does a hundred times more. Are there specialists for dogs? I am sure your vet is very good but I'm just grasping at straws for ways to get him and you some relief. This can't go on. And I know this miserable winter is just making things worse. I wish there was more I could do.
XOXOXOXO

thanks Maria
yes, you are right about the winter...
he cannot go out and have his beloved walks...i don't know of any
dogs who can be out in this freezing cold and snow...
besides the sled dogs...i am guessing your sweet Jackie cannot be
outside either...
poor boy hates diaper, as i think any proud dog would...but for
now, he needs to wear it.
thanks so much for the sympathy & concern...
my spine is spasm-ing all over the place....of course this
weather does not help...but suspect the stress is 90% of cause....

Poor boy - I will keep hoping he catches a break!!!
No, Jackie does not like the cold. We take her for short walks on days when it hasn't been too cold - but on the really biting cold days, we just let her in the yard to do her business and she can't come back in soon enough!!
Big hugs to you both!
-
Oh, Jess. I feel so bad for you and Sparky. I sincerely hope brighter days are ahead for you and sweet Sparky.

thanks so much, Maria and Karen....Sparky and i appreciate
your kind concern....
he IS starting to heal i think...the blood is there and gone
and then back again...i am hoping Sparky is starting to heal
he had haircut and bath, etc, at groomer...long overdue from
surgery and then snow storms preventing travel...
he is napping now after eating his noon meal...
he always gets so stressed out after vet or groomer....
my spine needs the botox shots badly...especially upper left
thoracic and left shoulder....it feels similar to when i first went
to a doctor with back pain complaints...some 30 or so years
ago....the gorilla gripping upper spine and won't let go....it
feels so tight, with bad spasms...probably gonna give hot water
in shower a try again.
few inches of snow coming tomorrow, but wkend supposed to get another
foot in New England...ugh...the barometer changes before storm do not
help me or alot of other people who can feel weather before it arrives.

got 9 a.m. appt last minute at vet...
lab report says Sparky has doggie version of Mersa...so resistant to meds...said some meds that work on bacteria too dangerous
to give dogs...
now is on doxi and also gave me non steroid anti inflammatory
chewable med but in 8 years Sparky has never wanted to chew
a medication made for chewing. also gave him fluids today.
check in about a week to see if antibiotic pills helping...
my spine is so tight that the hot water is only helping me
as long as i stand in shower....
so i will be back and forth into shower alot today/tonite. even with oxycontin and hydrocodone off and on, the tightness does not quit...gorilla will not let go...and snow storm on the way makes things worse...spring looks so far away.

Oh Jess...I'm so sorry to hear about this huge stress in your life which must surely be impacting badly on your already severe pain. I pop in occasionally but never know what to say because I can't help. I do hope you have some good news about Sparky soon because I feel it will help with your own pain. And with such a severe Winter...you're getting a treble whammy right now. *Warm hugs*
-
Jess, hang in there. That's a lot on your plate.
I hope the NSAID will keep him comfortable until he clears the infection. Can you cut it up in tiny pieces and mix it into the food?
This is a very rough patch and you and baby bunny are due for things to turn a corner. I hope that happens soon. I wish the weather would let up. It's been bad down here so it must be really bad up there.
Hugs to you and the baby.

thanks Jen, Maria, Karen, Sharon,
and others...
my spine has not felt this spasm-y in a long time...
i am looking forward to injections of March 3rd to
help relax the muscles and relieve some of the pain.
but i think i am going to be off forum for a while...
relationships...all and any, in my opinion, have a huge
impact on health....all kinds of health...
that is what i am going thru when the stress gets to me...
that is what i am guessing you go thru, too, Ed...
and anyone else with the kind of stress that contributes
to gorilla attacks on their spines.
thanks to those who have expressed concern and caring...
