  • Bulging Disc

    Hi everyone,

This is my first time ever on a forum and I've been using computer since the early 80s. In researching the net I came upon this wonderful site. I desperately need to find another person in my age group that has been through what I'm experiencing. (It’s really a sad commentary when I have to seek out others in pain.) I am a 56 year old female with a full Harrington rod in place since 1974. My original curvatures ranged in the 60s & 70s. All activities were normal and life was great. Then 2 years ago I developed a bulging disc as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Additionally I have degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, & arthritis. Up until about August of this year, I was doing fine managing my pain with medication and the occasional caudal ESI under fluoroscopy for leg numbness. I just had my 5th ESI this past Wednesday for leg numbness and they usually work well to alleviate that pain, but doesn’t to a whole lot for all the other lumbar problems. I've seen my orthopedic doctor who is a well respected spine specialist. I have been told that the only available option is the placement of more hardware across the lumbar region both anterior and posterior with pins anchored into my pelvic area. I believe that with all of the technology and modern procedures, a less drastic measure hopefully is available. Besides the major surgery, the recovery time of a year is not even an option for me as I need to continue working, care for my ailing 83 year old mother, and I have no one to assist me post-op as my family is very very small. My health insurance is limited on certain things as well. Is there a less invasive, less drastic outcome to my dilemma? Right now I can barely walk so I use a cane and sometimes a wheelchair. I am at the end of my rope in the hope department. I truly am desperate. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and bless you all.
