I am posting in "First Time" because this section gets more traffic than "Revision" AND because this surgery (Nov 5) feels like "First Time". In 2009, I was fused T-3 to L-3. I had 3 non-unions, so 2 more surgeries in 2010 and 2011. Fast Forward...did great...started having sciatica pain...ultimately had surgery in Nov, fusing me down to ilium. Now, I have excruciating pain in my left hip when I sit down. I'm totally fine when standing or lying down. But...sitting is necessary for everyday life. I had a post-op appt on Dec 16, and my surgeon said the x-ray looks good, all the hardware is in place. I told him about the pain, and that I need 20mg of oxycodone to manage the pain - and I expected to not need any pain meds, 6 weeks post-op. He looked again at my x-ray and said he didn't see anything that should require narcotics. He did say that he's had patients who were annoyed by the bolt in a hip, so he removed the bolt after 2 years, once they were fused. I cannot imagine being in my current situation for 2 years. I have places to go and people to see! Anyone else have this experience? Does the pain diminish with time? How long?
