  • Families Needed for Research

The National Scoliosis Foundation is trying to locate families with a parent and child who have both had surgery for scoliosis. If you are such a family, or you know of a family, please contact Joe O'Brien at jpobrien@scoliosis.org.

    Familial Scoliosis

    Linda:

Scoliosis runs deep inmy family. ALL females have it to a varying degree. Even one brother has curvature. My daughters are too young now, but I have no doubt that they will develop this disorder. My sister recently died from an accidental overdose of synthetic morphine from an implanted pump due to her failed surgeries. Her daughters all have scoliosis too. My mother is still alive and also has scoliosis. My Grandmother and all of my aunts had scoliosis, though most have passed away. Let me know if our family can help you out. I will also send an email. Thanks.

      Hi Ann...

You won't qualify for whatever Joe is recruiting, but there are several ongoing studies to which you might be helpful. I don't know if they're all still recruiting. Here are some links:

      2) http://www.scoliosis.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6

      3) Carol Wise at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital was looking for families with at least 4 members affected. I can't find any current information on volunteering, but you might be able to reach her at (214)559-7881 or (214)648-1677.
