  • Hip and Arm numbness

I'm new on this site so I've never posted anything...but anyways...

I was diagnosed with scoliosis back in January '07. Lately I've been having these weird sensations in my right hip and my right arm. My back will start to hurt at the top of the right side (which is where one of my curves is located) and then my right shoulder starts to tingle. The tingling works its way down my arm until everything from my shoulder to my fingers are tingling, and then it all goes numb. The numbness will come and go for a little while, and then it will all go away and my back doesnt hurt anymore.

Also, the same thing happens in my right hip. The tingling and the pain get so unbearable that I can't walk. Does anybody else have these same problems??? If so, can you offer me any advice or insight as to what is going on??

    My name is Allie
I'm in the ninth grade and I'm 14 years old
    Curves are 45 and 44
I see Dr. Horton at the Emory Spine Clinic
I tried 3 different Boston braces prior to the decision to have surgery
Surgery is scheduled for December 27, 2007 at Egleston
    I'll be fused from T4 to L3

I actually dont have my brace yet. I'm getting it next Thursday (oh goody!! haha not). I called the nurse that works with my ortho/spine doctor today and she told me that she would like to know if it kept happening after I get the brace. She told me to lie flat when it starts happening and it should go away. Did it ever happen to you before you had your brace?

oo really?? u dont have any brace yet?? i wonder why it happenes to u.. did ur ortho tell u y?? for me it happenes when the brace is placed too low it pushes on my hip and then it causes it to hurt.. at the beggining i just took out my brace for a while and then i put it on when it was ok.. and no.. i never suffered from this before i got my brace.. and btw.. are u going to get a brace anytime soon?? or just trying it another way?? perhaps surgery.. u didnt include ur curves when u first wrote because like for me since my curves are kinda big.. then my left rib pops out a bit and people were able to tell me why it happenes...

Your scoliosis is a twist in the spine. When the spine twists nerves can get compressed. Your symptoms are probably compression of nerves at the top of the spine(arm symptoms - tingling etc) and compression of nerves at the bottom of the spine ( hip and leg symptoms.)

yeah I'm getting my brace a week from today, and I'm not exactly excited. When I called the nurse she didnt tell me why it happened. She just said that she would like to know if it continues once I get the brace and she told me to lie flat when it happens. So yeah that's about all I know. Rayknox, my mom had said she wondered if it might be something like pinched nerves, so what you are saying makes sense. Do you think it will stop when I get the brace? Thanks to both of you. In case you were wondering, my curves are 44 and 40--- I have an S-curve.

I'm getting a Boston Brace. I think. My doctor is Dr. Horton @ Emory Orthopaedics and Spine in Atlanta, GA. This is a dumb question, but how did you get all your info @ the bottom of all your posts? Is it the signature??
