  • Some Advice please...

    Hi,

I have two curves 50 degree upper and 40 - 50 lower that was my last measurements 6 yrs ago. I'm going to see my specialist on the 31st July. I don't get back pain at all only muscle stiffness every now and then but since i've got a new matress i haven't had any problems with my back. I swim and i do stretches.
I really don't want to get the operation... Would they want to operate on me even though my back feels fine to me and i don't get much pain?

    Thanks in Advance

    Balanced curves...??

    Hi Leelee,
I'm like you.. I don't have horrible back pain & my curves are 60/60. Maybe it's because are curves are balanced?? That 's what I was told when I was younger because my curves back then were in the 40 range & similar..& balanced..
Pain is a big factor but personally speaking, I feel you should consult with a specialist on how this can impact your organs-lungs etc... In my case it's a digestive problem which seems to be related.. I also lost about 4 inches in about 6 years after the birth of my 2nd son.. & have a very disfigured -(hunchback) back.. I recall reading someone's post on this forum a bit back that you will know when it's time to head towards surgery & I felt that way when I made my decision about 6 mths ago... good luck & just be regularly checked thru the years.............Ly surg. Hi Leelee,

yes some orthos could suggest surgery, especially if you're young. I was not in much pain at 18, and was supposed to get surgery but backed out, until age 26(when I was in pain). I think when you're still very young, and not in much pain, you can wait and see, as a good correction can be achieved even if you wait a bit, and surgical techniques evolve every year so that's good. Make the decision for you, and nobody else.
