  • more info,

My 13 yr old daughter was diagnosed with scoliosos back in November of this year. It has progressed alot worse in the last 5 month's. They sent us to an Orthopedic Dr. he said it went from a C to an S in that 5 month time period and she has 25% curviture at her shoulders and a 27% curve at her lumbar. Their sending us to see a Pediatric Orthipedic Specialist now.My ? is..Is the S more serious then a C shape. She went through a growing spurt about 3 1/2 inch.I've been trying to read up on what can happen. Do they always wait until they get to a certain % before they do anything to correct it?

    Thank's

    Hi...

If your daughter's curves were accurately measured, they may put her into a brace (depending on her skeletal maturity).

"S" curves are not really more serious than "C" curves, although they often involve more vertebrae. S curves are usually balanced (meaning that the head is centered properly), whereas C curves are often unbalanced.

You can find some good, plainly worded summaries of scoliosis here:
