Hi All,

I just had my 1 year post-op Dr.'s appointment today. I was told to call him if I had any problems, otherwise, I do not have to see him again. I was just wondering if that is normal procedure???

My surgeon is seeing me again for a 2-year check-up next February. I would think that a surgeon would want to periodically monitor the harware and the areas that weren't fused to watch for any development of a curve in that area or for any deterioration that might happen. Just my opinion though....

Hi Shari...

While I don't think it's the norm, I also really don't think there's any need to see your surgeon after a year, UNLESS you have some new symptom.

I went to my Dr. last month ,7 months post op. He said he would see me in 1 year. If any problems let him know.
I personally think it depends on your Drs personal preference. My surgeon I had said he sees his patients every year for the first 3. The Dr. I got transferred to I don't know if he does the same or not......... Mattie

I was also told after my second operation a year and a half post op that I only needed to see him if I had pain or problems, but when I decided to see another ortho(and scoliosis specialist) for neck pain, he told me that I should see him every two years to get Xrays and see if all is in place and how I'm feeling, and I agree with him.

My doctor released me at my 6-month post-op checkup. I think it is how you are doing, and what the doctor looks for. If you are uncomfortable with his decision, you might check another doctor's opinion.

The important thing is: how are YOU doing? How do you feel? Are you feeling like you need to see him/her more often? Linda

Thank you all for your opinions and advice. It's appreciated!!! I am feeling much better now, I guess I just assumed that he would monitor me once a year. I do have one trouble spot between my right shoulder blade and my spine that progresses up, but he seemes to think it's because I have a small frame and I need to build up some muscle mass in that area.
